Title: Make up brands
Post by: Dawn Kellie on January 26, 2026, 12:25:23 PM
What is your go to make up brand?
Is there a goto way to get your colors, short of going to get a makeover? I don't have the option of going to get color matched at this time

I don't have a particular brand. I go with what I find available.

For experimenting, you don't need to spend a lot of money on top-name products. I would buy from the Dollar Store. It's cheap enough that I could buy a variety of colors and experiment with different looks. Once I figured out my color scheme, I would look at the better quality products.

I found that I don't need a bunch of different things. I have a few colors that I like, and I stick to them as my "signature" colors. Nail polish, lipstick, eyeliner. Occasionally, I will use eyeshadow, but not often. I am still looking for a mascara that doesn't clump, flake off, and irritate my eyes. I have tried all different kinds, even brands recommended by my doctors. Still no luck, so I skip it most of the time.

Personally, I've used E.L.F. products and had good luck with them. Reasonably priced, and pretty quick delivery when I order off the website. The big chain stores have it on the shelf, If you're up to shopping in person.

I don't tend to have any particular brand loyalty. I have stuff from L'Oreal, Maybelline, Elf, Rimmel and some brands I'd never heard of. I tend to read reviews and try products based on that. It is a bit of a hit and miss technique though but once I find something I like I'm a bit of a stickler.

As for colour, I presume you are talking about foundation matching etc? A lot of the major brands have online tools where you take a selfie of your face and it tries to match it. I'm not too sure how acurate they are though as I've had some odd suggestions. Knowing things like your skin undertone (warm, cold etc) helps a bit and can help narrow down choices. I'm still on a quest for the perfect foundation but I'm not too bad on colour. Best I've found was Loreal True Match but there are loads I haven't tried.
