Title: Hi from a Northern Girl
Post by: Stottie Girl on January 27, 2026, 12:17:41 PM
Hi, newbie here.

I would like to quickly introduce myself. I live in the North of England and am definitely a little bit on the shy side. I have known I was trans from as far back as I can remember but am finally starting to make moves to be who I really am though I have a long road ahead.
I have been a bit of a lurker to this site for many years but I'm only now plucking up the courage to introduce myself. I have gleaned a lot of really useful information and heard some wonderful stories in that time and hope to continue in that vein with you lovely people.

Heyya and welcome. So glad you plucked up the courage to introduce yourself. I've found it super friendly since I joined not so long back. Everyone just helps each other to feel their best selves.

Look forward to hearing more about you for sure when you are ready. There are a few of us from the UK,  but even members from afar feel so close by in spirit.

Welcome! It's wonderful to have you step out of the lurker shadows and join us properly. The North of England—you've got some great communities up there, and I hope you're finding good support locally as well.

Taking those first steps after knowing for so long can feel monumental, and you're doing it. That takes real courage, shy or not. This community has been here for 30 years because people like you found the strength to reach out, and then stayed to help others do the same.

You've already been absorbing stories and information for years, so you know this place pretty well. Now you get to be part of those wonderful stories too. Feel free to ask questions, share your journey, or just hang out and chat. We're glad you're here.

What part of your journey are you working on right now? No pressure to share more than you're comfortable with—just letting you know we're listening if you want to talk.

With love and support
— Susan 💜

Hi Stottie

My name is Sarah and I would also like to formally, Welcome you to Susan's Place!

I see that other members of Susan's have also welcomed you as well.

As Lori says we come from all corners of the world and share a common bond between us.  For me I'm still "British" hailing from Surrey and Hampshire and I'm a proud Aussie Sheila!  Have fun and I'm sure you will learn a lot more by interacting with other members.

Once you feel comfortable here, it would be appreciated if you add a little bit more about yourself in the other forums and threads.  I would appreciate it very much as, I'm always interested in learning something new about new members.

In addition members of Susan's will more than likely discuss problems or issues that are similar to yours as most have experienced these issues as well.

Please keep in mind when posting that this is an ALL AGES PUBLIC Forum and the internet never forgets.  Do not post anything that you do not want to be made public.

Take care and all the best for the future.

Once again, Welcome to Susan's Place!

Best Wishes Always

Thanks Sarah,

I'm just finding my way so far but I'll start boring everyone with stuff before long!

Hi Stottie

Finding ones own way is why Susan's is here, I never had the information that is available today, even after changing my life around in February 1989 and still did not know virtually anything until I came across Susan's in early 2010.

As for boring?  Well you would have to write pages and pages, but even then I would still not be bored.  As I said I'm always interested in learning new things and certainly about new ,members.

So I welcome your input with open arms.

Take care and have fun around Susan's

Best Wishes Always

Reading through some other introductions I think my introduction might have been a bit lacking in info about me so I figured I ought to add a bit more.

I'm 49 and soon to be the big 50 (scary!) and currently not fully out of the closet yet. But I have been taking hormones for a good while now and am delighted with the results. I feel like I've achieved quite a high degree of feminimity. I am carrying a bit too much excess weight which I think has helped the process but I'm dieting hard now to get my weight down.

I try to spend every spare moment I have as a woman. The UK has become a scary place to transition recently so I'm trying to get as much done as possible before taking the plunge. Electrolysis might be my next step as i am getting sore skin from shaving every day. Think it might be the softer skin maybe?

I have told my mother and best friend but do not want to tell my 81 year old father as he simply will not understand. I love him to bits but he's from a generation that wouldn't be able to cope. I'm not willing to loose him out of my life. I am an only child so no siblings it's just me and my folks.

I am single and have been for most of my life. I'm not sure if it is the fact I was trans or not but I've never felt I could open up to anybody (and yet here I am waffling!)

I'm sounding like a sad sack here but I'm really not! I like my life and am happy to crack the egg, so to speak, in my own time.

I keep myself busy with my hobbies and interests such as wildlife and landscape photography, hiking, woodworking, cooking and baking, and I was a keen cyclist up until about 3 years ago (that's when the weight came on) I even learned to fly a plane when I was younger. I like to set myself challenges but transition is going to be the biggest of all!

Anyhoo that's me. Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome and I look forward to getting involved more on other threads.

So pleased to hear that HRT is working out so well for you. Seems like you've really got things together and it's giving you the feelings you're looking for.

Honestly on paper the UK really looks scary, but my experience is so different. I've been fully living as a women for 8 months and had no bother from people. One occasion just some lip from a homeless person in Birmingham. Most people don't seem bothered. I hope you can go full time if that's indeed what you're looking for 😊

You definitely don't sound like a sad sack. Your intro is warm, honest and indicative of someone giving good consideration their life journey.

Look forward to hearing more!

Thanks for the kind words Charlotte.

Yes full time is definitely what I want in the future. I want to be able to pass as best as humanly possible when I do though. I don't have very thick skin when it comes to abuse, hence why it's scary to me. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it might not be as bad as I fear!
