Well I have had the most wonderful evening with my mother about my being trans. I had previously told her I was trans and thought she had understood even though the conversation was quickly ended but recently I had noticed a few commments which made it clear she hadn't really understoood what being trans was at all. She seemed to think it was some sort of sexual fetish.

We have had an unexpected, unplanned heart to heart discussion tonight (the power of whisky!) and she now totally gets it and is fully supportive. I can't begin to describe how happy I am tonight. I even showed her a picture of the real me and she was gobsmacked! It really is something to have your mother say she thought you were really pretty!

This really was an accidental comming out the closet moment for me. Whilst coming out to my father is still a no go for me it is so wonderful to have my mum (my best friend) to be fully supportive of me.

I realise most girls on here have been though moments like this in one way or another but I am still reeling from it! I can sleep happy tonight! ha ha!

So glad to hear that this milestone came so out of the blue yet worked out so well. Sounds like you managed to explain everything to her very well too.

Doesn't make it any less special for you, sweetie. Unplanned often works out better, because people don't have time to work out what they think or want to say beforehand. You just go with the flow.

...it sounds to me that your next obvious move is to plan another
meeting with her and to go there dressed as Stotti Girl. 

Based on her reaction to you that you described I would think that
would be a good and successful next step....
....but, you know your mom best, so you will be the one that must
make that decision.

My parents were both long gone when I began to build my new life but, I'm sure my mother would have been very happy that I had found the things in life that I needed and proud that I found the courage to pursue them!
