For me decisions to have FFS and GRS have come really easy. I think I honestly just decided one night that's what I wanted.
I try not to over think these kind of things. If it feels right I just go ahead and plan it. The thought of it all feels good and that's totally enough for me.
Add to this at the moment my financial position is good enough to service the debts in a short time. I can't guarantee I will always have as high an income as I have now in 10 years. So it feels worth doing now.

For me I really wanted my surgery and quickly because a federal election was coming up. The Liberal leadership was not well liked and there was also a lot of foreign influence. The Conservative party I find to be less a political party and more of a spiteful hateful mirror of Maga. I was terrified that a Conservative government would end all gender affirming care meaning I would be removed from hrt.
Testosterone is a vile poison for me, being taken off of hrt would have killed me.
Now thankfully I don't have to be worried about testosterone poisoning unless someone forcefully makes me take it which is extremely unlikely.

The reason for me to get surgery is because I cannot stand having male genitals any more. I just need to get rid of it and finally be the woman that I am!

I may have been "non-op" at one point but I decided to pursue the surgery. My reasons for doing so are mostly to just have a body that matches my brain quite simply. The intimacy I would be free to experience with a man would be an added bonus.
People have tried to tell me I don't "have" to do this. I really do believe that unless you've lived a life in incongruence you simply can't understand somebody's reasons for going through this.

I thought it made sense for my body to match my brain. I didn't need the surgery as desperately as some do, but yes, I wanted it. At the time, 45 was in power in the States and our official opposition party was trying to make itself a clone of the Republican party. So, like @Athena, I wanted to get it while the getting was good.
I could anticipate a time when genital checks might be required to access certain spaces. Having to submit to such a check would be bad enough, but failing it would be much, much worse.
Plus, I had no particular use for my old plumbing, and losing it would not be a hardship.
All of which reinforced my vague idea that I was pretty sure I wanted it. I had the surgery 6 years ago (the week that covid shutdowns began) and I have had no regrets.
