Just wondering how many of you hold your partners hand when out and about? Or if you don't have a partner, would you?

I love holding my boyfriends hand whenever around town or walking at the park. He just naturally reaches for my hand straight away. Looking around some couples are similar hand in hand and others not.

I'm guessing some couples hold hands some of the time but not all too. For me it just feels nice to be in contact and I'm proud to show we are a couple too.

I've been single that long physical contact makes me uncomfortable which is a sad state of affairs.

I'm sure if I was in love it would be a different story. Personally I think it's sweet. Especially when you see an old couple doing it.

My wife and I hold hands a lot. We're one of those "old couples" and have been together 18+ years. It still just feels good and like home.

Physical contact  makes me uncomfortable too. Not had a partner since 1999. Also its not safe showing public displays of affection

I love holding hands when with someone that I am in love with...

We do hold hands sometimes, but it's not a habit.  We especially like to do so when we encounter someone who appears to be a bit redneck-y.  Heh-heh!  😈

Oh my, so definitely exercising your freedom in front of those that may not approve!

I just do it wherever as is our free right.

I must say that I may not be doing this in Turkey in a couple of weeks. I will see how the land lies, but I dont want to take risks in a country where it could cause issues. I would prefer things different, but also recognise I'm a guest in another country.

I miss having someone else's hand to hold. But share many of the concerns described by Big Kim. What a rush it would be, though, to hold hands in public with another woman as a woman! Who knows? Maybe someday.

Maybe things are safer in the UK, but when I was boymoding I still held hands out with my boyfriend. I guess I just don't have that fear!

Kim, I'm sorry you have to avoid that, but I can understand.

I hope in the UK people wouldn't do anything bad but have no experience. It's not uncommon to see two men or two women holding hands here. Nobody bats an eyelid as far as I can see. Even kissing in public rarely causes a scene. It's likely there are people thinking negative thoughts about it but I've never seen anyone vocalise them. I do remember one incident of violence against a lesbian couple on London's tube that made the news as it was caught on video so maybe it happens but I would like to think it is extremely rare.

Married for 30 years to my wife. We hold hands occasionally when out and about but not too often. If we do hold hands it's always when I am in boy mode. She doesn't seem comfortable with doing that when I am presenting as a woman. Maybe one day.

Lovely subject...and so culturally sensitive.
So I have had various experiences.
The first one was when I was studying a training course to work with children and adolescents (still a closeted boy), we had to see pros and cons of LGTB and straight couples and lucky me, I was supposed to look for them with my partner (a girl).. So, we found soooo many pros that we overwhelmed the rest of the groups, and holding hands in public was one of the advantages. Being a girl-girl couple is really nice. No one would look at you holding if you are two girls holding hands in public...at least in Spain.

The other experience I had was in Africa and in some Muslim countries (as a man), where men are Ok to walk around in public holding hands. I have to admit that the first time I was shocked, until I realized that it is normal...

Whatever the case, touching someone can transmit a lot of information, and hands are very sensitive to many more things than just touch and provide an very nice degree of intimacy, at least for my point of view.

Pretty sure men in India hold hands too. Even when they're just friends and not romantically involved. Cultural differences are very interesting.

Isn't it illegal to be gay in Iran but acceptable if they transition? Sure I read that somewhere?

My wife and I hold hands when ever possible. When I went out dressed the first time we still held hands.
She was out of state for a week and I was so lonely for her

For me holding hands with my boyfriend is the most special feeling. I feel at instant ease and so warm. I even reach over and hold his hand in bed or sitting on the sofa. I'm glad some others also get to enjoy this special feeling. Hands are definitely the route into someone's soul.
