GOP congresswoman wants to ban strippers in schools but can't name a time when that happened

Alex Bollinger (26 Feb 2026)

Republicans in Congress are trying to pass a bill that would ban strippers from performing in front of children in schools, something that is not happening anywhere in the country. But the outrageous and shocking nature of the bill may draw attention away from the fact that the bill bans any mention of transgender people and could even ban trans people from becoming teachers.

Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) and 17 cosponsors introduced a bill, the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act," or H.R. 7661, this past Wednesday. The bill amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to broadly ban federal money from supporting "sexually oriented material" in front of children, with some limited exemptions for art, literature, and science.

The bill defines "sexually oriented material" as "any program, activity, literature, or material that exposes such children to nude adults, individuals who are stripping, or lewd or lascivious dancing."

There are no schools in the U.S. that are hiring strippers to perform for fourth graders, and Miller cites no such examples. But a paragraph at the end of the bill adds to the definition of "sexually oriented material" to include "material that... involves gender dysphoria or ->-bleeped-<-." Gender dysphoria describes the discomfort a person can feel as a result of a mismatch between their gender identity and sex assigned at birth, while "->-bleeped-<-" is a right-wing term used to describe the idea that transgender people exist at all.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The bill wants to classify the mere mention of trans people as being 'sexually oriented material', which would be banned in schools.

You really can't do anything other than shake your head when you read something like this.

Most fourth graders would boo a stripper off the stage and ask where the clown is.

I think we all know the answer.

I guess that also prohibits 6th Grade Health classes, aka sex education.

As long as we are banning things that never happen, the bill should also prohibit liquor sales on school grounds, as well as cigar lounges, and kindergarten drivers' ed classes.

Let me get this straight:  inflation is up thanks to tariffs, people are losing jobs, some people are losing the right to exist in public, citizens and immigrants are being arrested for minding their own business, the insanely wealthy are being made wealthier, the rich and famous are getting away with r*pe, the country is being run by an organized crime gang, and World War Three has just started, and yet this Congresswoman's highest priority is to ban something that never happens?  If I read this in a novel or saw it in a movie, I would say that the plot was implausible! 😢  SMH.

I think the key is this part:

But a paragraph at the end of the bill adds to the definition of "sexually oriented material" to include "material that... involves gender dysphoria or [being transgender]."

because:

Alexsandra Vaca of Transitics said the bill would be "censoring the mention of trans people in schools" and noted that the bill does not include an exemption for sex education programs and isn't limited to curriculum, so it could be used to ban LGBTQ+ student groups from meeting.

"Additionally, because of its vagueness, it may also force trans teachers into the closet and prevent schools from affirming trans kids' identities out of fear of retribution," Vaca wrote.

And this:

Rep. Miller has a long history of anti-LGBTQ+ actions in Congress, including introducing an anti-trans bathroom bill, introducing a federal trans sports ban that also defines gender and sex in terms of gametes, and a bill to change June from LGBTQ+ Pride Month to "Family Month." The last bill called Pride a "lie" and called on Americans to "instead honor God's timeless and perfect design."
