Do you like to watch professional golf? 

If so, do you watch on TV or streaming, or in person?

I used to like watching the US Masters and the British Open but it's pretty much only shown on the expensive sports streaming services now. Not paying those prices. I fancy going up to St Andrews or Carnoustie for the open some time though, They are within day trip distance for me.

I went to the British Masters a few years ago as it was at a nearby course. Mainly Euro PGA golfers but saw the likes of McIlroy, Garcia, Poulter and some of the old greats like Jiminez and Olazabal. That's the only Mens pro tournament I've seen in person.

When I was younger I went to a few Womens PGA tour tournaments as they used to host them round here.

Makes me wonder what other pro sports events people may have been to.

No. It bores me to death. And I am someone who likes cricket. Golf is one of those sports that is 100x more interesting to play than to watch. To be fair the commentators save it somewhat. But American commentators can make probably anything sound exciting. That incessant exuberance is a gift. :)

I have been invited as a guest to go to an upcoming pro golf event over multiple days.  I am reluctant because there will be many people there and it will all be televised.  Is this a time to go as my "old self"?  I just would be so nervous and have a lack of confidence with so many people around.  Every hole on every day will be video archived. 


Edit:  I would go as a spectator, to make that clear.

Don't think about any of that, Chrissy. You are there to do what you love. Just focus on playing golf. Can I ask... would you feel more comfortable going in disguise? Or... I mean... could this be the opportunity you've been looking for to do something secure in yourself? Everything has to start somewhere, honey. Would your lack of confidence be any different either way?

I think it's kind of amazing that you're in the league that you can get invited to pro... anything. Sports people are a different breed to us regular troglodytes. Embrace it for all it's worth, Chrissy. And... girl... the people who watch, aren't the people who play.

You do you, okay? And never feel ashamed of that. If you can swing a driver like a person possessed, that's all on you.

you measure your own self-confidence, pass-ability and self-assurance.  If you are going
with those that know you as female ChrissyRyan... and around the throngs of unknown
strangers and visitors, then that should be much less of an issue. 
If you are going among acquaintances or friends that you have not come out to then that
helps you to decide.

I hope that no matter what you decide to do with your appearance, I hope and trust that
you have a great time.  Unfortunately, based on the NEWS stories yesterday and today, you
may not be seeing Tiger Woods among the Pro Golfers that are playing.

Chrissy, I would go as the real you, it's probably a perfect opportunity as everyone around you will be more focussed on the golf than you which will give you the chance to get used to being out as yourself.

I played in a domestic pro am once a good number of years ago. It was just club pro's no-one famous. There was an anouncer on the first tea and a few spectators at the holes nearest the clubhouse. A posh course too, Bill Clinton had played it before when he was in the uk. I topped it off the first tea and topped my second shot too lol. I was mortified! I tore my wrist ligaments in another work tournament too. I kind of avoid tournaments after that experience! Honestly I'm not sure I can still play. It's definitely harder with boobs in the way now!

Tiger may not play at any event soon, but he did play this week in his own new indoor league.

He may show up at some upcoming events as a spectator or past champion.

They do and some of them are excellent golfers. I think I need to change the swing somehow though I'm not sure how. I'm certain I read somewhere that the female swing is very different. I'm not sure I have a stong enough grip anymore either though since the injury.

I like seeing some of the pro golfers and also some personalities / famous others that may be in a ProAm tourney. But that can be on TV. 

There are also some famous golf holes and courses, and a lot of history associated with some.
Some courses are immaculate. 

I like the white sand traps and the landscaping at some places.  Some courses are oceanside.

Nope, like others have said Boring.  It ranks right up there with baseball and nascar.  95% of the time nothings happening, 4% something almost happens, 1% something does happen.  I have more exciting things to do, like cleaning wax out of my ears.

Watching golf is a lot like watching a cricket test match to me (surprised you don't like it Lauren). It's relaxing, it goes on for days so you can drop in or out around your daily life to suit. There can be nail biting finales and the courses are often beautiful to look at. It's sport but at a much gentler pace.

Now put me in front of a Newcastle United FC or an England World Cup match and I'm a different animal! Shouting at the telly, leaping out my seat, on edge the whole game. Hyper and nervous at the same time. Sometimes it's nice to enjoy sport at a more sedate speed.

When I was in elementary school I would watch some hockey, in secondary school I would watch wrestling for a few years. But honestly I have no interest in watching sports on tv. I did enjoy watching live baseball games but never on tv. Golf was never anything I even considered watching, I enjoy the walk through the woods that usually happens when I play though lately with my knee's stairs are a challenge.

When I was younger and able to I enjoyed playing rough and tumble sports but I never really had an interest in watching them, maybe small clips but not the whole event.

I used to watch a lot of golf. I really appreciated when a pro missed a putt or made some mistake. I would yell at the TV, I can do that just as bad.

Nope. Don't like to watch it or play it. We had to golf for a week in phy ed. Hated it.

Miniature golf can be fun to play.

My boyfriend likes mini golf and we play that together as we have a lot of laughs. I don't watch or play any sports. I'm basically a geeky type with no interest in that kinda stuff.

Not exactly but I play with microcontroller platforms like Arduino and code in embedded C. Geeky stuff I do or have done are being a Furry, trading card games, electronic music production, built a tesla coil and lots of electronic projects! I've had weird hobbies too like collecting street lights. I still have a few. Oddly I'm fascinated by lights.

I found out that if I go, that I would have access to some areas the pros might be eating dinner or buying gear (I thought they got most of that from sponsors?) at a pro and gift shop that has a more restricted access.  I think it is because tournament sponsors pay hefty fees so they get some passes to some privileged areas.  So it would be like a shared set of passes among those that decide to go. 

I think that being with so many elite people may go over the top with me and I would be extremely nervous.  Yet, I am curious.  I am leaning towards not going.

You should go. It would be a hoot and something to look back on.  The tournament in Arizona is supposed to get kind of wild, for a golf event

Cricket is boring. Not as boring as golf though

Golf is a great walk spoiled.
If you get the chance watch the Waste Management tournament in Arizona. The spectators are a lot of college kids and they yell and scream. They will boo a safe shot and cheer if a player takes a tricky shot.

One fun thing at the tournament would be the three or four putting holes that are said to replicate holes on the course.  Equipment is provided which would be convenient for a spectator.

Getting pictures of pros during the practice rounds may provide some nice mementos.  The gift shops are there for more mementos. 

Unsure if I wish to take a whole week off though.

Another cool thing with the sponsor's badge, the days I use it for the special meals area, the meals and beverages would be at no extra charge and that includes tipping.  Even extra tipping for great service is unwanted.  A seafood restaurant is there with supposedly a great view.  There are four other restaurants in the same building, so there is variety.  Supposedly there are even restroom attendants. 

But I think I might be uncomfortable with so many elites there.  I would not be there if not by invite, I suppose others might own big companies or are important customers of big companies or they are wealthy or tied in to the golf industry, such as pros and equipment makers.  Maybe TV broadcasters?

I think getting a picture at the clubhouse would be cool.

Cricket is so confusing.  Stationed 2 years in the UK and never figured it out.  I did watch and like lawn bowling. 💚

Maybe some sports are more interesting as a player vs. being a spectator.

I have a hard time watching any sport on TV. Occasionally soccer but playing or being there that's different. The energy of the crowd is stimulating

I wish the HAPPY GILMORE 2 movie would have been really good.  It had a lot cameos but was no way as good as the original golfing theme movie.

There is a Par 3 contest on Wednesday of tournament week the day before the four rounds of tournament golf starts.  That may be nice to be at.

Actually I am leaning towards staying home.  It would be wonderful if you could be maybe within 50 feet of a golfing legend though.  There will always be lots of golf tournaments that one can attend in the future.  If I do not feel comfortable going as myself yet, perhaps I should wait.  On the other hand, just going as my "former self" could be fun.  This might be something like  an extended "backstage pass" at a top concert but with no guarantees you could actually meet a pro.  But you might.

I will figure this out.

Whether you go as yourself or your former self I think you absolutely should go. You might get the chance to go to other tournaments but you probably won't get the opportunity to go "backstage". Could be a once in a lifetime thing.

My mother was a theatrical agent and I used to go to a lot of backstage parties or shoot parties. You may not get to chat to the famous people but frankly being in the same room as them and seeing them with their hair down is a cool experience too.

Well there will be no planned meetings with pros, as far as I am aware.  They just often eat at one of those restaurants at the course.  Many pros rent houses I hear near the course and they also get close up parking privileges and more.  I am unsure where the lodging would be for us, I just know I would be sharing a bedroom, but not a bed.  That would not be a problem for me.

Of course, on the course, depending on how far the pros are close or far from you, you can see them as they play. 

I do say that it would be nice to be at a tournament where you do not have the silly caddie races, people running around acting like yahoos, frequently screaming "You da bomb or da man!," and taking endless selfies and having their telephones sound off.

In summary, it should not be the Happy Gilmore movie in real life with people wearing beer dispensing hats.

This is a dignified game!  Aside from the applause and the roar of making a near impossible shot, I just want to hear the birds chirping and the creeks' running water.

I have a few days to decide to go or not.

Plus her younger sister will be visiting. 

I decided to not go to the golf tournament. 
I will have a nice time with my Sweetie and her sister is here this next week too.
There will be another tournament to go to someday.  I can watch this tournament from home.
A difficult choice in a way, but when it came down to it, I think I made the right choice.

It would have been cool to meet the main announcer, as he has done so much with sports broadcasting, but that would have been a meeting only by chance.

When you said your sweetie couldn't go i knew you couldn't go. At least in my very limited mind.
