Hi everyone,
This topic has probably been covered somewhere else on this forum but my search button can't find mention of either Euphoria or Hunter Shafer.
I came to this show partly because the 3rd season is being advertised all over Sky. And second because I've been catching up on some old James Bond movies, which led me to For Your Eyes Only (1981), which led me to Google 'transgender woman' actress. That's because, if you don't know, Caroline Tula Cossey makes a brief poolside appearance in For Your Eyes Only. Caroline is a female who was assigned male at birth.
Anyway, the Google search also pointed to Hunter Shafer, the 27 year old female who was assigned male at birth.
So I watched the first episode of Euphoria this morning. Blimey. It's very graphic but probably quite a good way of understanding the Gen Z generation.
I'm not sure from episode 1 that Hunter's character Jules is going to be a particularly good role model for transgender women (Spoiler - she's something of a Suga Baby) but casting Hunter to such a prominent role is pretty cool.
I get fed up with the looks-based approach to women assigned male at birth but Hunter Shafer is beautiful and you wouldn't know she wasn't born into a female body. I daresay it helped that she was able to transition young.
Trump's America issued her a Male passport last year. What a dick-head that man is (literally).

p.s. is AMAB (Assigned Male at Birth) an acceptable term on this forum?
I rather like it because, as some of you may know, I dismiss the reductionist belief that biological sex and gender are different. It's just an attempt by control freaks to define something based on their own narrow definition and reductionism, choosing to ignore a multiplicity of conflicting evidence.
So I quite like the AMAB term.
xx

I am aware of this show and that it has a prominant transgender charactor/ actor in it. I believe it is on Netflix though so I can't see it. It does seem to garner a lot of praise and has a bit of a cultish following.
I'd be interested in what you think of it once you've watched a bit more of it.
