Republicans in the House of Representatives passed a bill yesterday that, if passed by the Senate and approved by the president, would force teachers across the country to out trans kids to their parents and also ban schools from acknowledging that trans people exist.
The House passed the "Stopping Indoctrintation and Protecting Kids Act" (H.R. 2616) yesterday in a 217 to 198 vote. 208 Republicans and eight Democrats voted in favor of the bill, while 198 Democrats and zero Republicans voted against it.
The bill requires public schools to get parental permission before using the correct names and pronouns for transgender students or risk losing access to federal funding. The Congressional Equality Caucus (CEC), a group of pro-LGBTQ+ lawmakers in Congress, notes that there are no exceptions in the bill for potentially abusive situations, meaning that if a trans kid requests they be addressed with a certain name or referred to with certain pronouns and isn't aware of this law, their potentially abusive parents will be contacted without their consent.
The other part of the bill says schools can't "teach or advance concepts related to gender ideology" and cites the definition of "gender ideology" from Donald Trump's executive order "Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government," which banned the federal government from recognizing that trans people exist.
LGBTQ+ advocates panned the bill.
"The GOP thinks they can legislate transgender people out of existence with this inhumane Don't Say Trans bill, but all they're doing is making life worse for a small minority of already-vulnerable children," said CEC Chair Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA).

I try to post news articles people should know about. I read way more articles than I post. While I do not like to be the bearer of bad news, please understand that reading so much negative news does take it's toll on me. It's probably the reason why I don't engage with others as often as I used to. I still have hope...
