Republicans are facing the worst midterm prospects since, well, the last time Donald Trump was president. However, the political landscape for the GOP is far, far worse. Thanks to Trump's failed tariffs and his bumbling war with Iran, the economy is in a precarious position. Gasoline prices are a daily reminder to voters of what Trump has wrought.

Adding to the party's woes is the endless grifting in the White House. Trump is brazen in directing money toward his own interests. Meanwhile, the concerns of average Americans about affordability have taken a back seat to Trump's obsession with erecting monuments to himself. Trump has even gone so far as to say out loud that he doesn't really care about the financial impact of his policies on Americans.

Sprinkle in the stonewalling of the Epstein files, the brutality of the immigration crackdown, and the sheer sleepiness of the elderly president, and it's no wonder that Republicans are panicking about the midterms. It's a prime reason why a record number of Congressional Republicans are choosing not to run for re-election.

So, if you can't run on the economy, you're stuck with an unpopular war, and the president's poll numbers are a positive drag on your campaign, what's left?

Culture war issues, of course. Specifically, attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, particularly trans people.

... In an interview with his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, on Fox News last Saturday, Trump reeled off all the reasons why Democrats are awful. The first two reasons he cited were trans athletes putting women "in danger" and the "transgender mutilization [sic] of your children."

Sadly, most republicans and democrats agree that trans people make them uncomfortable. They feel that we are inconvenient and should just go away. This is a sad reality we have to live with. Most democrats are upset about "trans people in sports" even though it's not really a thing.

But how will that work out for them? Polling indicates the majority of the country supports trans rights in general, with only a slight majority not supporting a couple of key points (sports and medical procedures for transgender minors).

Why focus on policy when you can make people the boogeyman

Is it wrong that I want to scream "I DON'T WANT TO BE TRANS, ITS JUST WHAT I AM". Would that make a difference? Do they really think we are out recruiting people to turn trans? I mean I am fighting through the shame that they caused just to survive another day in their hostile world. I don't think there is marketing material to turn people trans. We all have to go through a lot just to accept that is what we are, I'm not 100% there yet.

I hope this didn't offend anyone.

This will not end well for the GOP. They will need to drastically change their agenda if they want to continue. I think many are waking up to that fact. Many are resigning or declining to run for re-election. It is going to take a long time to clean up this mess.

Trans people make up about 1% of the population. I think politicians target trans people because our votes are meaningless to them. Because there are so few of us, they can easily instill fear in the rest of the populace. Since most people have never met a trans person, politicians use that fear to secure votes.

The reason is this:

MAGA is a big tent. Pro trans Anti trans? Pro-life? Pro choice? Immigrant? Pro union? Anti union? Wear the hat and you're in the club

On the progressive side, the criteria are much more progressive. Admit that you're worried about trans people and don't understand them and you could be alienated by those who do.

So...attack trans people and you splinter the Democratic Party. We fight amongst ourselves and they high five each other.

It can be undeniably painful at times, but being open, out, and a visible role model in your community is exactly what strips this weapon from their political arsenal.
