Title: How do you like your coffee?

Black
With sugar only
With cream only
With both cream and sugar
Gave up coffee
Coffee?...ewwwww!
Other (please specify)
I like mine white and sweet. In fact I'm enjoying some right now.
For poll purposes "cream" means dairy or non-dairy substitute that includes cream, half-and-half, and milk. Soy milk sort of falls in that category. For the record, I prefer half-and-half.

If this is a poll, why don't you "Add Poll".
It's easy and only you as the author of this topic (or an administrator) can add it.
I don't think I have those permissions, at least I couldn't find the button.

Milk or cream, and sugar.
I don't mind either milk or cream. It has to taste good.

when 'Mericans say cream, do they actually mean cream...like the thick fatty milk-stuff, or is it just yankspeak for milk?
For the record I hate coffee and drink cheap, strong black tea with a tiny dash of milk...(and when I say tea, I mean hot).

Its tends to be Half and Half, half heavy cream, half milk - but more so its some white powder that 'substitutes' for both. Iccck.

Straight up, like a real man. I checked "other" though, cause a shot of brandy can only improve a cup of strong coffee. I'm not saying how much of a shot though because of the dosage issue.

Well, let's see.
There's mocha with or without either toasted marshmallow or peppermint.
There's latte in a variety of flavors including pumpkin and spice.
Then there's plain old black.
As for the regular/decaf debate, I like the Carabou philosophy:
"If you bought decaf, it wasn't for the kick, so it must have been for the flavor. Therefore we provide the best tasting decaf available."

And lots of it!
And lots of it!
Quote
Wenn ich des Tages nicht dreimal
Mein Schälchen Kaffee trinken darf,
So werd ich ja zu meiner Qual
Wie ein verdorrtes Ziegenbrätchen.
Ei! wie schmeckt der Kaffee süße,
Lieblicher als tausend Küsse,
Milder als Muskatenwein.
Kaffee, Kaffee muss ich haben,
Und wenn jemand mich will laben,
Ach, so schenkt mir Kaffee ein!

Mmmmmmm......espresso strength, please. Black, with aspartame. I buy a local roaster's whole bean, Mayorga coffee, and grind it fresh, one pot at a time. I like the darkest, oiliest roast they make, maybe Winter Blend, African Roast, or Cafe Cubana.
Every night before bed I brew a fresh pot, and take 2 20 ounce cups up to bed, drink one straight down, and nibble at the other from sleepy time till dawn, as I wake up frequently. No, not because of the coffee....'cause I have to pee a couple times a night, because I'm an old(er) lady.....or maybe because
I drink so much coffee. Hmm.... ???
During the day, only one cup of coffee, but about 6 bottles of water.
Different strokes

I don't get what Americans mean by cream either. In my country cream is considered the fat you take off the top of milk from a cow.
We normally drink coffee or tea with milk (which ranges from 0% fat to something like 3.3% for our standard 'whole' milk - this is more or less what is left from cows milk after you take away the 'cream')
Our cream is like 35% fat, and you can whip it up to add it to deserts - and if you shake it long enough it turns into butter. Putting that in your coffee would be a bit rich, but it is not too bad whipped and placed ontop of a hot chocolate.
I had a look online and I think I have it sorted out Pica pica (see below), I've discovered that in my country we don't even commonly produce or use the thing most Americans call 'cream' domestically, at least not in our coffee. This is probably the same for England.
36% or more butterfat - Heavy whipping cream
30–36% butterfat - Whipping cream or Light whipping cream
25% butterfat - Medium cream (don't commonly get this in my country)
18–30% butterfat - Light, coffee, or table cream (don't commonly get this in my country)
10.5-18% butterfat - Half and half (don't commonly get this in my country)
3.25% butterfat - Whole milk
about 2% butterfat - 2% or Reduced fat
1.5-1.8% butterfat - Semi-skimmed
about 1% butterfat - 1% or Low fat
0.5-0.0% butterfat - Nonfat or Skim or Skimmed
In the United States and Canada, a blended mixture of half cream and half milk is often sold in small quantities and is called half-and-half. Half-and-half is used for creaming coffee and similar uses (just a note that if you said you were creaming your coffee in my country it would be taken you were going to have a wank into your drink). In Canada, low-fat cream is available, which has half the fat content of half-and-half. In the United States, skim milk is also known as "fat free" milk, due to USDA regulations stating that any food with less than ½ gram of fat per serving can be labelled "fat free".

For me it has to be 100% black, invariably.
I like my coffee unflavored,* black, strong, organic, fair trade. Espresso is my favorite.
*I dislike the commercially-added flavorings. But once in a while I might add certain spices while brewing it-- cardamom (Indian and Arab custom), cinnamon (Mexican), or even ginger (Yemeni). Indians sometimes spice their tea with chai masala and apply similar spices to coffee too: a blend of cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, black pepper, and ginger. If you make filtered drip coffee, do not add powdered cinnamon to it, because in hot water it turns into a thick colloidal goo that won't let the water go through the filter. Use a broken-up cinnamon stick. I once had Arab coffee with mint leaves added, which was surprisingly good.

When I have the choice of how I have my coffee (i.e. I make it myself), it has to be milk-based, and has *at least* three teaspoons of espresso coffee (and I don't know how many things of sugar to counter the coffee-y bitterness ;) ::)).

omg... coffee... yuuuuummmmm. when its like... regular coffee that someone made, i add milk and sugar. so it ends up as only like 1/2 coffee. but when i get it from a local shop i get either mint mocha (if im feeling rich), mocha, iced mocha, or blended ice mocha. i like mocha. :)

Yirgachefe or Kenyan green beans, roasted by me the preceeding day, in a small batch, to the perfect color and oilyness. Ground before brewing, in a good press pot. Soy milk and a bit of sugar added to the cup. Drink slowly.
Ohhhhhhhh!!
But roasting sets off the damn fire alarms as much as not.

I doubt I could function without at least one cup of hot black during the day. Particularly in the mornings, since I am naturally nocturnal. But I don't really like sweet drinks, so I prefer it very strong, very black, and without any form of sugar or sweetner in it at all.
And never decaffeinated. :)
The best brand I ever had was one called 'Rocket Fuel', which contained guarana. Whoosh! Talk about a wake up call. ;D

Hi Leiandra, I don't believe we met, I love your avatar. Both my partner and I like our coffee strong enough to float the Titanic on it. But then I only drink two maybe three cups of coffee in a day, depending how often we happen to drive by a Tim Horton's coffee shop. I am also nocturnal, My intentions might be on going to bed early but the earliest I get to bed is at 3:00am. I like the night where it's quiet and one can let the mind go hither and yon all it pleases. But I don't like getting up late and miss the morning either. But it all works out ok I just don't worry about when to go to sleep I just go when I feel the urge.

Espresso has no more caffeine, and in most cases less, than a regular cup of coffee. Its all in your head.

I like my coffee with five packs of Splenda (sweeter than real sugar--I use less) and a bit of real milk. I never really understood coffee as a stimulant. Maybe I drink too much caffeine (I'm cutting back, actually), but I've never used coffee to "wake up". I just drink it 'cause I like it, and sometimes the best time to drink it is right before bed!

I've always been partial to a strong, dense cup of fresh coffee that I'll roast and grind myself. I use beans chosen by me, and I'm rarely disappointed.
The best source for beans or equipment that I've found on the Internet is http://www.sweetmarias.com/
They also roast several varieties in small batches every week. If you've an interest in coffee, take a look!

There was an article titled "Brewed Awakening" in a recent issue of Bitch magazine about coffee culture and misogynist propaganda. How coffee is masculinized in America and supposed to be the drink of "real men" as opposed to tea which is feminized and supposed to be only for women and sissies.
But in the Coffee Cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach, the characters are a daughter who's addicted to coffee, and her dad who tries to force her to quit it.

How surprising... most people who refuse coffee say they love the aroma but dislike the taste.
Well I love coffee, black and strong, like Emily Saliers sang about in the Indigo Girls' song "Last Tears."
I'm gonna rack my mind one last time
until I cannot think
I'm gonna dip into your memory
and take a good stiff drink
and when I'm drunk on the last drop of sadness
about how we went wrong
I'm gonna play this song
make some coffee black and strong
give thanks for healing time
finally make up my mind.
Only thing I love better than coffee is Indigo Girls, and they go well together. Emily has sung about black coffee in several of her songs.

Just recently I started drinking coffee again(having a cup right now) because I found that Decaf doesn't have the effect that normal coffee has on me (which was making me extremely irritable).

At this very moment, I like my coffee strong, but also electroweak, coupled to an SU(2) doublet with a nonzero vacuum expectation value that spontaneously breaks the SU(2)xU(1) symmetry, with a couple of superheavy right-handed Majorana particles on the side, in the (1,1,0) representation of the gauge group, to provide for a small neutrino mass via the see-saw mechanism.
Mostly I like it in great quantities, to help me understand what all that meant.

Black. Is there any other way?
No, when I was a teenager and first started drinking coffee, it was with cream and sugar, coffee is a developed taste (like most things).
By the time I was in my 20's it went to black and multiple cups a day. In my 30's it was 10 cups a day or more.
Now in my 60's its two or three cups a week.

My father buys fresh beans and roasts and mixes them himself. Then we have our own espresso/coffee machine along with a dozen flavors to top it off. So I am spoiled on coffee. I usually drink it twice or more a day.....I am going to die.
But yeah, cream and sugar at least. Usually a lot of cream on top of a strong flavor. Don't really like weak coffee with little cream. Just doesn't work as well. Sometimes I put in flavoring of all sorts or Cinnamon or dark chocolate chips.

Unsalted butter? Like just churned cream? How does it differ in taste from cream?

It's not a dramatic difference other than just tasting better. Hard to describe. I tried it with both salted regular butter and then lately with unsalted Kerrygold butter which is from grass-fed cows.

Was convinced to try the Aeropress and my first mug of coffee was quite good, noticeably richer and smoother than the same coffee brewed in my French press. It essentially brews espresso (except WAY cheaper than an espresso machine) so I made it Americana style, i.e. just added cream and more hot water to fill up the mug.
So what I'm drinking right now is that plus
cocaine-spoon of Stevia
tiny dash of salt
tablespoon of grass-fed butter
heavy cream

Some interesting (to me) trivia about coffee is that much of the flavor comes out early in the brewing but much of the caffeine comes out later in the brewing process. Therefore, espresso tends to taste stronger but not be as caffeinated since it's a rapid brew process. That also means that someone who gets impatient and pours themselves a cup while it's still brewing is often cheating everyone else out of some of the flavor but possibly cheating themselves out of some of the caffeine. You should really let a pot finish brewing for the coffee to be consistent for everyone.
Knowing that, I'm even happier about making my coffee Americana style because it will tend to mean more flavor and not as much caffeine which is my preference.

When I was little I'd be sitting in church with my parents and be really thirsty. I wasn't allowed to get up unless I was about to pee myself because halfway through the service kids were allowed to go to their own little class thing. So, if I was unbearably thirsty, my dad would give me his straight strong black coffee to drink. That stuff is wicked, I don't see how you all can drink it. It has to almost no longer taste like coffee for me to drink it.

Coffee beans smell wonderful when being ground. Coffee smells even better when being brewed. 30 seconds after it is done brewing, it is the most awful smelling thing ever. I have tried coffee once or twice. Never again.
But I don't mind if you drink some.
Just please don't set your cup down near me or try to kiss me for a while.
I can't even drink hot tea out of a cup that once held coffee. Sometimes I wish I could enjoy a hot cup on a cold morning.

I take my coffee black. My Sunday morning treat is a cup of espresso with breakfast. I don't need any sweeteners because I'm already sweet enough. ;D

In the morning, dark roast and as black as it gets. I'll have a cappuccino later in the morning and in the winter I'll go for a mocha type in the afternoon sometimes.
