Red states are declaring June something other than Pride Month in latest anti-LGBTQ+ trend

More red states are designating June as something other than Pride Month in an attempt to make a statement about their states' lack of support for LGBTQ+ people.

Tennessee kicked off the "rename June" trend this year by designating the month as "Nuclear Family Month." The declaration said that nuclear families are "one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children" and "God's design for familial structure."

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) declared June "Fidelity Month" yesterday to celebrate "Cultivating fidelity to God, family, community, and country."

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) signed a proclamation last week declaring June "Strong Families Month." The proclamation makes it clear that "strong families" do not include families headed by same-sex couples...

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun (R) copied Tennessee's wording and designated June "Nuclear Family Month" yesterday, saying that families "consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children" are "God's design for the family structure."

And in Utah, Gov. Spencer Cox (R) declared last week that June is "Fidelity Month" and says that the U.S. Constitution was "made only for moral and religious people."

Conservatives generally oppose celebrations of LGBTQ+ Pride and have gone so far as to argue before the Supreme Court that they have a constitutional right to ignore the existence of LGBTQ+ people. The idea of having "pride" in being LGBTQ+ is a rejoinder to conservatives' insistence that LGBTQ+ people should feel shame.

The attacks began to focus more on June itself in the early 2020s, when conservative influencers targeted brands for celebrating Pride Month with rainbow products and advertising campaigns.

This is a nice list of states we should avoid whenever possible.

Given the states involved, I feel like maybe it ought to be "I do declare"? 😁

The Constitution was written by wealthy white slave-owners who came to the New World to escape religious persecution and tyranny. Anyone remember the "Puritans," who were among the earliest settlers here?

Perhaps having a basic knowledge of American history should be a requirement for public office.

Fortunately, over time, we have been able to amend the Constitution to correct such things as slavery, women's right to vote, racial discrimination, etc.

Be careful, Governor, your IQ is showing.
