An anti-trans activist lied about a trans athlete injuring cis women. Now she has to pay the price.

An anti-trans activist in Australia has lost her appeal on an unlawful vilification ruling, so now she has to pay $95,000 in damages and issue a public apology to the two trans women she targeted.

Kirralie Smith, CEO of the anti-LGBTQ+ organization Binary Australia, posted pictures in 2023 of Riley Dennis, a trans woman playing on a semi-pro soccer team in New South Wales, the state that includes Sydney. She claimed that Dennis was "a man appropriating womanhood" and that she had injured two cis women during a match so badly that they were both hospitalized.

That claim wasn't true, and Smith would later admit in court that she had no evidence for that claim and couldn't even say when or where it supposedly happened or who the injured women were. "I didn't injure anyone. I didn't hospitalize anyone," Dennis told the local news.

Smith also posted on X in 2023 that she wanted men to help her with "the bloke playing on the women's team." Shortly after, she traveled to an area on the coast with a group of men impersonating trans women, according to The Guardian, and had them play soccer while she filmed them in order to mock trans women.

A court issued a restraining order against Smith in February 2025. She appealed and lost. The judge at the time noted that Smith's behavior was "objectively threatening" and "disturbing."

Later in 2025, a court found Smith guilty of unlawful vilification. The judge also rejected Smith's defense that she was engaged in political speech, noting that Smith misgendered and attacked Dennis in bad faith.

All of those people can do is fabricate nonsense about us. They really need to get a life.
