Susan's Place Transgender Resources

Hello everyone,

My name is Robyn and my egg cracked over the summer - shortly after my 60th birthday in May. I found this site just through internet searches and thought I would sign up. Although I've been here since 2004, I was born, raised, and served in the US.

I am pre-HRT. My blood work has already been done and I have an appointment this week with a therapist for my "indication letter" that my GP needs to prescribe speech therapy and hormones (after my endocrinologist consult in September).

I've come out to family, selected friends, and night before last to neighbors. I've been lucky that everyone is extremely supportive. All except my 13-year-old daughter, but given our very close papa-daughter relationship, I think that she needs time. In any case, that is where I am at - the start of the journey.

Welcome!  Transition often involves a lot of waiting.
While waiting it can be helpful to learn how to present appropriately as female. she/her pronouns selected.  If you haven't already I would learn about your skin tone/undertone. So much is based on what that is.

Thank you for that wonderful introduction.

Many of us started later in life. It just seems that this is when we have time to think, are financially better able to do things, and are mature enough to make better decisions. Often, that means we have also established family, work, and other social relationships that can be difficult to manage with those decisions.

Feel free to browse the forums. You will find many stories about how others like us have handled tough decisions, celebrated milestones, or just got on with our lives. Feel free to comment and share your experiences too. We all learn from each other.

Maid Marion, I'm am unsure of my skin tone exactly. When I tan, it goes in an olive direction, but I've spent the last year writing indoors, so I'm afraid I am kinda pasty.

Pema, yes I think it will take time. She couldn't say anything after her mother and I sat down to discuss it, only shrug her shoulder and look away. I ask what she thought since her friend Mateo as come over since elementary school and played dolls, Anna and Elsa dress-up, and now they put make-up on together; her friend Augustine wears high heels at times; and Victoria came out to her as lesbian, so what was the proble? She said that was different, those were her friends. She wrote me a letter later that evening saying that she was happy that I found myself but that she couldn't support me, that it was different now. Yet, later that evening she came into my room without saying anything and curled up in my arms and I stroked her head until she fell asleep. I think she is slowly getting used to the idea but it will take time.

It is one of the reasons I sought out an online community for the beginning of this journey. In RL I also have started attending the Queeres Zentrum Erfurt and building community there too.

Yes. I also think she will.
She loves you!  💕

Specialty makeup stores have scanners to objectively determine your skin tone.
Sales associates are trained to indentify skin tone as well.

I have green veins  in the bright sun which suggests a warm undertone.
It is easy to be misled when looking at the skin in artificial light.
I have a special lamp made by OttLite for for determining color at night.

I agree, and you are good to give her that time. You have known for a much longer time than she has.

A common thread that I have noticed from experiences in our Significant Others forum is that spouses and partners are still in love, but they worry about what others will think of them in such a relationship. Some are afraid of being labeled a lesbian or of losing family relationships. All of the things that we worry about, they worry about too because of their close relationship with us.

I think I just got banned... I am not sure why. But on my desktop I just spent an hour writing in 'My Journey' subforum and posted two picture of me and genderswap me. I am not sure what I did, but it says I am spam and that I am banned without recourse. Is this correct?
