Singer-songwriter-actress Dolly Parton, whose glittering country music stardom was matched by her pop fame and popular parallel careers in film and TV, died on Aug. 25. She was 80 years old, with her family not releasing a cause of death, but saying she "died peacefully today in Nashville."
The announcement came on her official Instagram, with a video from her nephew Bryan Seaver on behalf of the Parton family.
Per the family's official obituary, "A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton's legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact."

I could've sworn that she did her own version of "Hurt". I guess not. I know that Melanie did. So, I looked through her channel and found this. I love The Beatles. So, this was cool to hear. Rest In Peace, Dolly.

I was never a fan of her music but as person she was amazing and today is a sad day for the world.

I loved her music, and that she came from humble roots. She never forgot where she came from, and her music reflected that. May she rest in peace.

She was an icon that's for sure. I loved the fact that she was fabulous right into her old age and refused to let age and time get to her. Yes she had lots of surgery but she always had a young mind and energy

I too was never really a great fan of her music, although she did write some good songs.
The way she pulled herself out of poverty, didn't complain, was generous with her time and money, her outlook on life, her compassion made her a truly remarkable person.
If only the world had more Dolly Partons.
