Title: Hello from London Ontario

Hello,
I am a late egg breaker, came out at 56 this year after nearly coming out in 1986 at 16 and 2002 at 32. Kind of glad I didn't either time as conditions would've been poor and then I'd never have had my 4 daughters who I love more than anything and who are my biggest supporters.
My basic story is I knew I was trans back at the age of 10 (reading a Micronauts comic I figured out I wanted to be Princess Mari (Marionette) more than any other character and it wasn't close). In '86 I almost came out after watching the Renee Richards story on TV with my parents - my oldest recently told me how my Dad after golfing with her said she was like the son he didn't have (she was big into sports at the time) - which confused her at the time, but now I wonder if I had told them but blocked out the response as a mental safety measure (my brain does that at times I've learned which is scary). My parents died in '22 and '25, after my Dad died I decided it was now or never, so November 2025 I started therapy. January 28th '26 I went to a Trans London meeting still 100% male in appearance, scared to even say my chosen name. By the end of that night I knew I was coming out and very soon. Feb 7th I told my daughters (scary) and the one immediately came over and hugged me with tears in her eyes as she felt so happy I was coming out to them first and that I was being myself. The others joined in shortly after. Feb 8th I told my sisters, then said 'screw it' and posted on Facebook and on a baseball blog I post a LOT on. Feb 9th and beyond I've been 100% female in clothes and appearance. When I make up my mind that is it. Took me long enough to get there, but damn, once there I was there.
Now I spend a LOT of time with Phases of Fit (trans women only fitness group), Transgender Zone (cheap group voice lessons) and the local Trans London group. Life is so much better now than before.

We all take different paths to get here. Our journeys depend so much on our history, our families, the times we grew up in and everything that has happened along the way. Sometimes it takes years or even decades before the time finally feels right. The important thing is to follow your heart and listen to what it has been telling you.
Coming out is never easy, no matter how supportive we hope people will be. Telling your daughters after carrying this for so many years must have been incredibly scary. That first hug with tears in her eyes sounds like such a special moment. It also sounds like you have four wonderful daughters and having them as some of your biggest supporters must mean so much.
I also really admire the courage it took to get to the point where you said "screw it" and posted on Facebook. Telling family is one thing, but putting yourself out there for everyone to see takes another kind of courage. Once you made up your mind you certainly went for it!
Most importantly, you are not alone. There are many of us here who have taken very different roads to arrive at the same place. There are people here to share the good days, the difficult days and everything in between.
Susan's is also a wealth of information. There are years of experiences and knowledge here from people with all sorts of backgrounds. There is plenty to explore and usually someone who has been through something similar or who can point you in the right direction.
It is great to hear that you have already found groups like Phases of Fit, Transgender Zone and Trans London and even better to hear that life is so much better now.
Keep following your heart's desire and enjoying being yourself.
