Pro-trans punk rocker fights to unseat right-wing school board: "Inclusion isn't indoctrination"

While technically non-partisan or political, many school boards have been taken over by right-wing majorities and members of so-called "parents' rights" groups, like Moms for Liberty. With elections set for the Forest Lake school board in Wyoming, punk rock musician Claire Luger is part of an effort to take the school board back and protect the students it is supposed to serve.

"Public schools are for all students, regardless of who they are, their beliefs, or their backgrounds," Luger told LGBTQ Nation. "Every single educator in our public schools has a responsibility to ensure that all kids, including trans kids, are welcome members of the learning community. Inclusion isn't indoctrination or promotion; it's basic ethical practice that increases academic achievement and decreases harm. Shouldn't we want that for all students?"

The seven-seat school board, although nonpartisan, currently has a majority of members who lean toward the right wing of the political spectrum. One seat is currently vacant, and the seats of Curt Rebelein Jr. and Jill Christenson are up for election, with Christenson seeking reelection. Luger is running as part of a three-candidate slate (alongside Christenson and fellow newcomer Andi Courneya) that would alter the board's majority if victorious.

When it comes to fighting back against the establishment and authoritarian ideals, it would be hard to find a better icon than Luger for the role.

The German Nazis infiltrated many areas of the local government. Their 21st century American counterparts learned those lessons, and they are using that knowledge now.
