Patients condemn NY hospital for "bending the knee" to Trump's anti-trans threats

More than 250 protestors congregated outside Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City this week to challenge the hospital's recent agreement with President Trump's Department of Justice (DOJ). In a move that protestors suggested was "bending the knee," Mount Sinai agreed to permanently stop providing any form of gender-affirming care to trans people under the age of 18.
"Mount Sinai had a choice, and it chose to abandon trans children and their families rather than hold the line against federal pressure," Raquel Willis, the trans co-founder of Gender Liberation Movement (GLM), said in a statement to Them. "New York has some of the strongest protections for transgender people in the country; elected officials and institutions must enforce them. History will remember those that bowed to Trump's fascism."
At the protest, Gay City News reported that protestors used megaphones to ask the hospital to reconsider while some protestors wept and others administered their hormone replacement therapy in the street as a form of protest.
Speakers included Taylor Brown, the trans director for Mayor Mamdani's Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs, Qween Amor who is a trans nurse and activist, a 17-year-old trans boy called Sam, and a Floridian mother named Angelica Jadunandan who has a trans daughter.

Seven hospital campuses: Mount Sinai Brooklyn, The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Queens, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai West (formerly Mount Sinai Roosevelt), and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, and Mount Sinai South Nassau. All are paid for by patients, insurance, and pharmaceutical companies. Medicare and Medicaid account for 53% of patient service revenues.
Brendan Carr, M.D. (Current CEO): Began his role on January 1, 2024, receiving approximately $5,489,914 in total compensation for his initial reporting period.
I have little respect for any multi-billion-dollar corporation that is willing to sell its soul to retain the Almighty Federal Funding.
If the hospital is short on money, maybe the CEO and other executives should take a pay cut and free up millions of dollars.
