A high school student and her family have settled their lawsuit with the Boise School District after the student said she saw a trans girl in the bathroom, which is something that people have been able to sue over in the state since 2023. The district agreed to pay her $34,000, plus attorney fees.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff – identified only as "Jane Doe" – encountered a transgender girl in the restroom twice in 2025 at Boise High School. The trans teen was allowed to use the bathroom of her gender because she had a gender support plan with the school. In March, the girl's family sued with help from the Idaho Family Policy Center, a local anti-LGBTQ+ conservative Christian organization.
Jane Doe's father said in a statement that his daughter had "to endure a breach of privacy... not once but twice."
"Their lack of action forced us to seek help from someone outside the school system. No girl should ever have to go through what our daughter experienced," he said, not explaining what damages resulted from seeing a trans person in the restroom.
The new law has meant that trans students are forced to out themselves by either using the restroom associated with their sex assigned at birth or single-user restrooms provided to them by schools.

How was the cis gender girl harmed? The trans girl goes into the restroom fully clothed. She uses a private stall and then leaves. How on earth does that impact the cis girl? What did she "go through" that required a lawsuit? Make it make sense.
