As Texas Republicans face increasing scrutiny over racist statements just weeks before the 2026 midterm elections, they're turning to an old strategy to try to maintain control over a US Senate seat: transphobia.
An ad paid for by Texas PAC – which is associated with the Senate Leadership Fund, run by Senate Republicans – translates Donald Trump's infamous line about Kamala Harris into Spanish and applies it to state Rep. James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for Senate in the state.
"El liberal radical James Talarico," the ad intones in Spanish, "por los nobinarios, no por ti." That translates to "Radical liberal James Talarico, for nonbinary people, not for you," likely a riff on Trump's infamous line about how Harris was for "they/them," but those pronouns don't translate well into Spanish.
The ad claims that Talarico supported using "taxpayer money" to pay for "sex reassignment surgery for young children." This is not true. Transition care for minors almost never involves surgery, and, in the rare cases it does, it is for older teens who meet stringent requirements.
The ad cites a Houston Chronicle article from 2023 as the source of its claim, but the article only discusses the Texas House of Representatives passing a ban on gender-affirming care for minors, not using state funds to pay for surgery. The article notes that surgery for trans minors is "extremely rare" in the state and that gender-affirming care as it is actually practiced is "supported by every major medical association in the U.S."

You know what? Let them get played for the losers, suckers, and fools that they are. Go ahead and bend to the regime. They will discard you when they feel the time is right.
