Vice President JD Vance claimed that Texas Rep. and US Senate candidate James Talarico (D) "has a weird obsession with children and drag" and insinuated that he may have some related "sick sexual fetishes," in a video clip shared yesterday by Right Wing Watch.
The pedophilic insinuation echoes remarks Vance made two weeks ago at the Republican midterm convention and is just the latest in Republicans' anti-LGBTQ+ attacks upon the progressive Christian Senate candidate. Talarico is leading his opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, in recent polls.
"I don't know what this guy is up to," Vance said about Talarico in a phone call to the right-wing media outlet The Blaze. "I think he's well-versed in liberal political theology, but he also has, like, a weird obsession with children and drag."
"Very often, when you peel back the onion at people who are particularly concerned with drag queens and particularly focused on the beauty of 11-year-olds dressed in drag, or how wonderful it is that you have a 10-year-old who's taking puberty blockers, very often, you peel back the onion, and those people, I think, have some pretty sick sexual fetishes," Vance claimed, suggesting that Talarico and supporters of young drag performers and trans children are pedophiles and perverted fetishists.
Vance continued, "Of course, I don't know that that's true of James Talarico. All I know is that it's very odd when you have a grown man talking about the beauty of 11-year-olds in drag. I would rather a grown man focus on literally anything else."
