Trans teen fights back after principal bans her from running for homecoming queen

A Georgia teenager is fighting back after she was told she can't run for homecoming queen because she is trans. Clayton County Public Schools claims allowing her to run would violate its enforcement of Title IX rules, but it's unclear whether those would actually apply here. The student has now launched a petition asking for Georgia schools to change their policies.

Williams has lived as a woman for years and has gone through high school as a woman. In a TikTok video, she explained that she had already paid the fee to run, had a headshot taken, and was preparing her homecoming queen campaign when she was called into the Principal's office.

There, she was told that she would not be able to run because of policies around "biological sex." The principal reportedly told her she could run as for homecoming king instead but would have to use a male honorific and wear a suit. "Forcing me to run for something like homecoming king would invalidate my experience as a woman," Williams told ANF.

Contrary to what Williams was told by the principal, CCPS clarified in a statement that they don't actually have a specific policy regarding trans girls being homecoming queens. "The District does not have a policy that speaks to students participating in Homecoming Court based on gender identity, we adhere to the current practice of allowing that participation in accordance with traditional birth gender."

This, the school claims, is in line with the "current federal interpretation and enforcement of Title IX," where "gender-based distinctions are recognized based on biological sex." According to ANF, CCPS has said that ignoring those rules would put them at risk of losing federal funding.

It is always about the money, never about the welfare of the student or the community.

I wonder if there is a study that proves that cisgender males or females have a physical advantage in Homecoming contests? If not, then what is the complaint about?

We might lose money.

Yup. There it is.

Reading the story and viewing the video from the LGBTQNation.com news site saddens me greatly.

A terrible injustice to this 17 year old high school girl.

I thought all these bans and restrictions were to "keep women safe" and prevent a biological male from having an unfair advantage. Now, how does that line of reasoning apply here? What does that trans girl have as an advantage? Zero. I'd argue she has a disadvantage considering how transphobic our society is. How does she make other girls unsafe? She doesn't.
