With the midterms coming in November, Democrats are hoping to flip both the House and the Senate. But with Republicans running on anti-trans platforms, Democrats backing down on trans rights in key races, and President Trump still in office, will retaking Congress actually change anything for trans people?

The situation is particularly dire as we head towards the second half of Trump's second term. We've seen two years of the Trump administration bypassing Congress and legal precedent to push anti-trans lawfare: the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been working to obtain trans youth medical records in a campaign of fear aimed at ending gender-affirming care; the Education Department has been attacking school districts that have pro-trans policies on the books; and a twisted reading of Title IX is being used to try to deny trans children inclusion in school sports.

"We understand that our broad coalition on the Democratic side will only hold together if queer and trans people, and people of color and immigrants, know that Democrats are going to hang together on all of our individual rights," Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) told LGBTQ Nation. A Co-Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, Balint said a Democratic Congress could act if the House goes blue in the midterms, assuring voters that House Democrats want to protect trans rights.
