Title: ADHD and trans

I was contacted for a study by a university student doing a study on ADHD and trans people. I always thought that was a childhood disorder, but after some research, I found I fit the criteria, and almost to the letter. I most likely have struggled with ADHD my whole life but never diagnosed. Just curious if many here struggle with the same condition?

I used to have a lot of time management issues.
I've gotten much better by playing golf and making tee times several times a week.

Recently my therapist diagnosed me as having ADHD and RSD, Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria. I tried to read up on it but I told her I didn't want to take medication for it. She said not everyone with it needs medication, and that its pretty common in the trans community. Hope this helps.

I have heard more about trans + autism than trans + ADHD. I am pretty sure I am on the autism spectrum. I don't think I have ADHD.

ADHD and autism are closely related I think. It is certainly not a childhood thing. It is just that there is more awareness now than there was before. When I was suffering with depression my therapist referred me to get tested for both, I filled in all the extremely personal information and they asked my mum to do her own form (even though I am 50!) which caused her some distress. I sent everything off and about a month later I got an email saying they had lost the forms and asking me to fill them all in again. I told them it does not matter!!
I looked at it and thought well, what good does it actually do to know? There is no cure and at my age I have built my own coping mechanisms. What is the point in having a label attached. So I never went back to them.

My friend has ADHD. I see what it does to him. He thinks I am on the spectrum somewhere and he thinks that I am neurodivergent.
Honestly, none of it matters to me. Why? They will just throw more drugs at me. I also have some coping mechanisms. But, with the deluge of hatred from the top levels of government that is constantly thrown at us, those are failing fast. If other things are stripped away from me, I don't see things getting any better.

It's all about coping strategies which as an adult you likely already have. I think it maybe helps people to give a name to their issues but other than that I'm not sure what benefit you can gain from knowing.

They both happen and are more common than people realize in the trans community. My spouse has both as does my youngest sibling too. The interesting part is both are transgender too. Studies and information just hasn't caught up with the trends that are being found and probably won't for the next several years either. Hugs
