Title: Tough decision, hairstyles... (56K WARNING!)

I'm totally at a crossraods with this decision, I like my hairstyle but I really can't do much with it. So I want to get a new one but I don't know what to go with! So some help from you guys would definitely help. Here are the hair styles I've narrowed it down to...
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi8.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa8%2F_kittaykat_%2Fnicehair.jpg&hash=3acd82f9d03416ee9cfe3bbe6520f618b3d7ce85)
The Emo style hair cut... Option 1
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.solarnavigator.net%2Fmusic%2Fmusic_images%2Favril_lavigne_wild_hair_spread.jpg&hash=8626b58fc1fca1e4a6b14a5fc53c66d070b0d9e4)
Long with black streaks in it... Option 2
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg256.imageshack.us%2Fimg256%2F6546%2Falgfdvdryangcj2.jpg&hash=9d57c750b1374357794efb6e56fd80a865aa2a73)
Shoulder length with trimmed bangs... Option 3 (The only problem with this one is that I'm not going to dye my hair all black so it'll be that in platinum blonde. ;) )
Also before I post this I also might want to mention that my hair is about shoulder length and it is kinda on the thin side up on the top and on my bangs. So based on what I've told you if you could all help me choose I would really appreciate it.
One more thing, yes I am Gothic/Punk/Emo so these are defnitely the only hairstyles I'm interested unless you can find better ones that fit in with the goth/punk/emo look. ;)
Thanks everyone,
Krista

If you could pull that off I'd totally do it.

I'm more for option 2, I like very long hair :P (and yes, even on others, guys or girls)
I'd personally probably try and get something weird like pink dyed strands rather than black, but that's me.

It depends on a lot of things like your appearance right now, your clothing style, your body type, type of hair etc. If I had to just pick a hair style out of any of them not knowing anything about you or seeing you, I'd go with #3, but it's impossible to do without more info.

Well it doesn't need to be that length like 'now', it can't wait for it to grow?
I'm growing my hair to floor length, and its not some haircut's picture-length that's going to stop me, and the dyes are also at your own discretion, you can use temp dyes too. I don't think pink looks like a poser.

its not going to turn out right or will be lots of work to make it look like
that every day.

Quote from: MeghanAndrews on January 24, 2008, 12:26:14 AMRight now I look like any typical teenage girl. My face is pretty slender and I have a female type chin with a normal female jawline, I dress in goth/punk manner (Black, skulls, slip-on skater shoes, jeans, studded belts, wrist bands, ect.), I'm pretty small in terms of my body type (ie I have a 29 inch waist 41 in hips I and a 34B in the breast department, ect.), and my hair is actually kinda thin because I went through a very depressed point in my life which caused me to have stress and also made my hair fall out but it is getting thicker, my hair is about shoulder's length and it is platinum bonde. ;)

Also The pink streak would make me look like a poser because if you saw me and then took a look at Avril Lavigne you'd know that I take most of my style directly from her. Not to mention like I stated, when I go back to school I can't have pink. :P

I like one and three, it depends on how each one would look on you, and how much time you want to spend with your hair in the morning -- also, how straight it is naturally, etc.
For shorter hair cuts, you'll need to spend more time on to get the look. For the longer one, if you're having a lazy day, it's easy to just brush your hair out and go and run errands, etc.
Personally, I've been thinking of a shorter hair cut style (although, some people are going -- nooooo! LOL 'cause they like my long hair, apparently... which needs to be cut and styled again). Mine has random waves and curles in it, and then straight parts. I have to straighten it, which sux, but sometimes I don't care and let my hair do what ever... especially when I'm late for work, which makes long hair easier to work with 'cause you can usually afford to not spend as much time on your hair, etc.

number 1
don't even waste brain cells thinking about it.
number 1 is the best; its punky, sexy, and cool.
#2 is ok, but not practical if your hair isn't long already.
and #3 is too boring.

Hi, Krista,
I would go with #2 or #3 because if your hair is already that long and you get tired of it, you can cut it and do style #1. If you start with short hair and get sick of that, it'll drive you nust while you're growing it back.
Off-topic question: In the pic for style #3 the woman is making a gesture with her left hand. Can anyone tell me what that gesture means?
Thanks and I hope you are happy with your choice of hairstyle.

Nope. The sign has a long history, but it is usually known as the "devil horns" these days. It used to be used to symbolize something as being hardcore, primarily heavy metal music, but has since been diffused all the way down to even Britney Spears.
Yeah, and its pretty sad too.
I would go with hairstyle number three.

Well, my cousin looks like Avril Lavigne, hair color, hair length, skinnyness, yet I've never thought she was a poser. Also pink isn't someone's trademark :P
Since pink is a temp dye, it goes off with a few washings. It wouldn't hold as a permanent dye (its too light or something).
I look a lot like my cousin too :P I'm just a bit taller than she is. Our bodies look very similar, so does our hair lengths and colors. I'm not copying her, and no one accused me of doing so.
and I do want floor length, to hell with dress codes :P

Its a heavy metal salute, an old gesture from Italy, as opposed to the "peace symbol" Anton LeVey started using it in the 60s for his satanic church and it spread to metal music. Total poser stuff now, even Brittany Spears and Celine Dion use it. That out to pretty much end it.

If you have hairline issues, I would stay away from #2 unless you plan on keeping it down all the time. You could pull it off, but it would take some doing.
You never said how old you were, if you are over 30, I would stay away from #1. But that 's just my opinion. It's a very young look, and I've never had it, but I'm just wondering if it will take a lot of time to prepare "just right". It's cute, but it wouldn't work for me. It is also one-dimensional, I mean that's your look, what else can you do with it?
Which leaves #3. Basic, versatile, good all-around style appropriate for most ages that could be converted to a shorter style with a quick phone call to the stylist. It would also look good with some curl added, pulled back, or put up.

Meh. I don't let stereotypes, cliché and anti-stereotypes or whatever stop me. I do what I feel, I dress how I like (with major considerations to my budget, sadly enough). I like pink as a color, not cause it's this or that, but because I do. I love long hair, not because I know this or that person with long hair, I just do. So I don't let people's opinions of what is and what isn't fashionable stop me.
For example I don't like dresses that have pencil or limp (no form, or close to body) skirts. Even though it's pretty fashionable. I'm not going to wear these dresses to please fashionistas.
I've been told my hair is too thick and to layer it...and even though I caved in once (mainly to see what it looked like), I won't again. I don't like the look. I like my hair's thickness. I like my hair's wavyness, I'm not straightening it, I'm not making it more curly, I like it that way.
If Britney Spears had long wavy hair tomorrow, I wouldn't care, I like it for what it is.
Guess I have a different mind. I'm used to being an outcast, the bottom rung of the social ladder, I've got nothing to lose and everything to gain in being myself.

There comes a time in every fashion where it moves from being cool to being Junior High. After that point if you can wear it, well, you are either a fashion maven, or just a poser. No matter how early you were wearing it. Why look like like a hippie if you don't have to?

Oh wow, lots of people to reply to... well here goes...
Also, about the hand sign, I don't think anone really knows what it means. I've heard that it has meant love, peace, devil horns, ect. I guess really it depends in what context your usingit in when you present it. ;)
Actually so do I, my mom and pretty much everyone else who know's my cousin says that we look a lot alike. :P
No, not to hell with school dress codes... don't want to get kicked out... I actually want to be there. Lol, I'd never thought till now thaI'd say that.
I'm 16 and yes it is a very young look but one I could totally pull off... trust me... I've been told I'm a doctor. Lol. :icon_hahano:
I think that one is also a style I could pull off very well but the only problem with that one is the hair color issue.
Quote from: gothique11 on January 24, 2008, 01:59:03 AMNaturally my hair is curly but like I said I can always ge it straight with a hot iron. ;)

Quote from: Audrey on January 24, 2008, 02:06:58 AMI'm really thinking about it, it looks like you said sexy, punky, and overall just cool. :D
number 1
don't even waste brain cells thinking about it.
number 1 is the best; its punky, sexy, and cool.
#2 is ok, but not practical if your hair isn't long already.
and #3 is too boring.
Audrey
Quote from: cindybc on January 24, 2008, 02:49:55 AMIt does and I've thought about it BUT the only problem is that I would have to make draqstic changes to my hair like dying it black... that is the biggest problem.
I would say #3 it looks much like your own hair but longer Krista.
Nat, if you cut your hair I will have no recourse but to beat you up with a sardine. ;D
Cindy
Quote from: Wing Walker on January 24, 2008, 02:55:40 AMIt's actually only shoulder length but I would love to do it up like #3, like I said though I don't know if I want to make that major of a change to my hair.
Hi, Krista,
I would go with #2 or #3 because if your hair is already that long and you get tired of it, you can cut it and do style #1.

Also, about the hand sign, I don't think anone really knows what it means. I've heard that it has meant love, peace, devil horns, ect. I guess really it depends in what context your usingit in when you present it. ;)
Quote from: cindybc on January 24, 2008, 03:13:49 AMThat's a possibility, when the peace sign went out they might have looked for something new to replace it. It also may have come from an unexpected source and has just become a rocker symbol. Who knows. :P
Ya I believe that hand sign came out much later after us hippies. Ya me curious to as to what it means. is it a reinvention for the peace sign?
Cindy
Quote from: Berliegh on January 24, 2008, 05:30:34 AMI like #2 a lot as well but th problem is my hair is not that long and it would take years and years and years for it to get that long. ;)
I like 2 which is very cool.......personally I don't like number 1 as much. But it depends on the individual and their age and personality.
Quote from: redfish on January 24, 2008, 08:45:31 AMLike I said before, I think it has lots of meaning and it just depends on in what context you use the sign. ;)
Nope. The sign has a long history, but it is usually known as the "devil horns" these days. It used to be used to symbolize something as being hardcore, primarily heavy metal music, but has since been diffused all the way down to even Britney Spears.
Quote from: Laura91 on January 24, 2008, 09:27:39 AMI think I've pretty much narrowed it down to that one and #1. :D
Yeah, and its pretty sad too.
I would go with hairstyle number three.
Quote from: Schala on January 24, 2008, 11:29:52 AMI know that. It's just the people that go to the school I plan on going to defnitely would think of it as a posing move... and I don't want that. :P
Actually so do I, my mom and pretty much everyone else who know's my cousin says that we look a lot alike. :P
No, not to hell with school dress codes... don't want to get kicked out... I actually want to be there. Lol, I'd never thought till now thaI'd say that.
Quote from: tekla on January 24, 2008, 12:05:54 PMLike I said before a couple times, I think it has multiple meanings. ;) ... and I wouldn't call it a poser salute. :P
Quote from: siouxsie on January 24, 2008, 12:52:22 PMActually, my hairline has gotten much thicker since starting HRT so hairline issues aren't a problem... the lenth on that one is. ;)
I'm 16 and yes it is a very young look but one I could totally pull off... trust me... I've been told I'm a doctor. Lol. :icon_hahano:

Quote from: Schala on January 24, 2008, 03:21:36 PMI get the feeling your a punk too... am I right? If so more power to ya!
Quote from: tekla on January 24, 2008, 05:39:03 PMTrue, but there are always those people who can look cool with Jounior High styles. ;)
There comes a time in every fashion where it moves from being cool to being Junior High. After that point if you can wear it, well, you are either a fashion maven, or just a poser. No matter how early you were wearing it. Why look like like a hippie if you don't have to?
Quote from: siouxsie on January 24, 2008, 06:07:59 PMI really don't know what to say to this but... Awesome! I wish I had really long hair. :D
Fantastic! I also have long hair.

Guess I can get along with punks in mindset, but my clothestyle isn't really punk, my hair isn't really styled either (It's just very long with bangs in front).
h Naoto clothes sound interesting, even maybe something I'd wear...but mostly because of the cuteness factor. (h Naoto includes Punk lolita fashion)
Punks I see around have clothes I probably wouldn't wear, or want to wear (ie fishnets, ultra-short skirts), though I like black and darker colors. I've never really fit into any given style.

If you need a hot iron to pull off a look,
which seems the case for 1, then
you should not pick it unless you really
want to spend time on your hair.
Structured looks like 1, are real time sinks.
Those that pull 1 the best are asians
Better to try the long one, and then
go for 1 later. You said you like long hair,
will take quite to go from 1 to 3 again.

Pre-transition I had to threaten people sometimes, you touch my hair with scissors and I kill you. I meant it. I'm really non-violent, couldn't hurt a fly, but no one touches my hair without my permission.

I don't know, real long hair can't really be styled easily. Looks best if they're really slick or soft big curls or waves, my hair has enough curl but the curls are not strong enough to last without mouse or gel and on long hair, type 3a curls if the hair is long tends to become stretched and formless.
So if they're long its very easy for them to end up a frizzy mess unless I've used quite a bit of hair products (then they get dirty quicker)!! Straightening is long with thick curly hair and then humidity
hits and bam frizz unless you coat your hair in products..
So, best for me to keep it medium to short and get it to curl more. At this length, straightening is also shorter which gives me a viable option.
That's why I say, if you've got hair with some curl, option 1 will drive you crazy. It also needs to be cut often to remain that way.

Number 1 is so very sexy, but like somebody said before, go long and if you dont like it, you can go short later.
Otherwise it would work against you to go short then hate it or it not work right, and have to wait for it grow back out.

I don't like number 1 or 2 at all. Number two is kind of skanky to me. And number one could work, but it depends on what you look like. And there's less you can do with it.
