Iowa City, Ia. - University of Iowa history instructor Renee Goethe once taught a class called "The History of Death," but soon realized that a lot more students would sign up to learn about the history of sex.
"If you put the word 'sex' in your title, you get students," said Goethe, who teaches a course titled "Sex and Sexuality, Middle Ages through Reformation."
It's one of dozens of courses at Iowa's public universities that explore sex and sexuality in contexts ranging from health to philosophy. These courses are full of students hoping the titillating titles will translate to interesting discussions and provide a break from drier subjects.
