"Jennifer Jackson is hoping to win a seat in the state Senate."
"Political switch: Along with a physical rebirth, Jackson's politics have changed. The change was organic, she says, not born of necessity - conservatives are not particularly open to gender dysphoria.
Jackson says Republicans offended her with "hateful legislation" and budgeting policies. After her surgery, she intended to be "very quiet" and avoid politics.
But Utah lawmakers' debate of a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage drew her back in. "
Found a much more informitive story.

Sadly Jenni Lee Jackson lost in the Utah state senate primary race.

QuoteThe race that drew the most attention was in Senate District 9, between former state Rep. Trisha Beck and Jenni Lee Jackson, a transgender who had served on the Sandy City Council in the '80s and '90s before her sex change, which took place about 1 1/2 years ago.
Beck, who was formally nominated by outgoing Sen. Patrice Arent as well as by a Boy Scout leader and her young son, Riley, easily won the delegate vote after promising to represent the Sandy district's "quiet moderates."
Jackson told delegates she has passion and believes in herself.
"If you're going to be conservative, then I'm not your candidate," she said.
After the vote, Jackson said she hoped her campaign makes it easier for other transgender candidates.
"None of us are ashamed of who we are," Jackson said.
