A new survey shows that there is overwhelming public support for the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA), currently pending in the New York state legislature.
GENDA is intended to address the pervasive discrimination that transgendered people face in the state by amending state human rights law to add gender identity and expression as a protected category. A recent poll commissioned by the Empire State Pride Agenda shows that 78% of New Yorkers support legislation to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity or expression, with only 13% opposing it.
