"LOS ANGELES -- For teenagers living in a shelter for abused and neglected children, school can provide a daily dose of normalcy, a place to fit in, a chance to be just another kid."

See, I knew there was more to this story than people wanted to talk about.
This wasn't just a hate crime.
This kid (Brandon, the shooter) was abused, physically and otherwise, had crackheads for parrents, and violent one's at that.
He is certainly deeply psychologically troubled and very scarred.
He could do with a lot of treatment and help.
Not life in prison.
A little love goes a long way.
As far as the kid who was shot,
It looks to me, like the primary responsibility lies on the school sytem.
We have a real problem in this country.
Kids are abused every day at school. And the teachers do nothing.
Neither do the school admins.
Here in Colorado there is a school called Legacy High in Thorton that has had many issues regarding kids being attacked for being gay or trans.
Some have even ended up on the news in the day.
One kid was hit by another with a pipe in the head for being gay.
Others have had "gay" spraypainted to thier locker, and others still have been attacked or otherwise assaulted.
My friend went there and she was attacked.
The school repeatedly looked the other way and refused to play the gay-straight alliances school club anouncements even though they were a legitamate school club.
They even had the club be put in charge by a catholic woman to try to convert them from being gay or otherwise genderqueer.

This kind of stuff needs to stop.
These school people need to be stomped into the ground.

They had PLENTY of warning that there was a problem with their school in California.
They completely ignored the warnings and should be held to FULL accountability in my opinion.
They should be charged with manslaughter for willful negligence leading to a homicide.

A damaged and abused kid did what damaged and abused kids usually do:
Violence.
They know that, and they did nothing.
The system failed.
Don't tell me there's not a school councilor there.
And if there's not that's a problem too.

IT's High time we made our children a priority.
