Title: Silent Day
Post by: Chaunte on April 25, 2006, 08:27:10 PM
At the high school my daughter attends, they had "Silent Day" today.

Silent Day is set aside as a quiet day of support for the student LGBT community who feels that they must stay silent & in the closet.  Students attend class but do not speak at all for the entire day.  Students carry a form with them to class explaining what they are doing.

Yes, my daughter participated, though she does not yet know about my existance.  Good kid.

Good for her, a woman with principles and one who is not afraid to stand up for them.

Leigh,

Until your posts, I didn't know that this Day of Silence is a national program!

I read through the Day of Silence website and passed the information on to the woman in chare of discrimination and diversity issues.  SHe hadn't heard of it either, but was VERY interested - so much so that she asked for copies of the information.  I also passed the info on to a student of mine who is on Studetn Council.

To make a short story long, we may be adding our school's name to the roster of participaing institutions.

Leigh, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
