Burger joint's name, logo irks LGBT group
New restaurant's logo described by some as demeaning

When the owners of Quickie Burger and Dogs chose their logo, they thought it would make patrons crave an order of chili cheese fries. But the logo, a busty woman in a tight shirt straddling a hamburger, has drawn criticism from campus groups.
The newest addition to the South State Street landscape has caused a stir on campus with its brightly colored logo, which some believe is offensive.

In other news, a leading dining establishment in the gay district in SF is called (I'm not kidding) Squat and Gobble. It seems to offend no one, and has very tasty breakfast items.

Well I think if she had been riding the hot dog instead, it might look suggestive. As it is, I just don't see what the stink is all about. Really.

Outrage in a place that still has "Hash Bash" - or just looking for some PR? You be the judge.

"Squat and Gobble," eh?
Well, I guess it beats "Chew and Choke."

personally,i don't see an issue with the logo picture.it reminds me of the paintings on the side of aircraft in the 2nd world war,and all those risque drawn calendars and postcards from the 1950's.

I had to read the article to figure out what the heck could possibly be offensive about that. I'm still kind of puzzled.

The only reason to go anywhere for a PhD is they have the best program that you could get into in your field. All else is not relevant. If you can get into the number one program in your field, then you do it, no matter where it is.

The logo is kinda stupid, not very amusing, but offensive? I somehow don't see how it's offensive. And the owners of the place are willing to speak to the protesters and have made it clear they meant no harm.
Why the fuss? Doesn't this student group have anything better to do?

I don't know. The old rankings put it at number one for Anthropology (I have no idea where it stands these days), but I HATE small towns. Working on an anthro Ph.D. takes, on average, seven years of your life, and why would you want to spend such a large chunk of your time in a city/place you don't like? I think I'm aiming for California... just because I've always wanted to live there, and it'll probably be too expensive to live there except as a student. The way I see it, is that with a degree in Anthropology, if you want to teach, you go wherever you can get a job. So, if you're going to spend your life following around where a Department will take you, why not choose where you want to be for your Ph.D.? Tekla, what did you get yours in? Do you teach? I know you're in California, so I'm intrigued.

I got mine in the History of Technology and Science at midwestern University of Science and Technolgy. I taught for ten years. I now work it on a more practical level - lets call it applied S&T, and I'm working on a couple of books about what I do. One on the people, one on the technology and its evolution.
I always thought that 'in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is" so I just like to work with the practical side now. I've had offers to teach, one in my field, one running a theatre tech department for the local JC. The pay was not enough - but I don't know how many more years I can climb, rig and load trucks - so I've always figured I would go back to it at some point. But for now, its like getting to play baseball for the Yankees, you do it as long as you can.

"I have a problem that you take a women riding a hamburger and you put it next to the word 'quickie,' " he said. "It just seems like it's not putting a good message out there for the objectification of women."
I have a problem who take many words and automatically propose that they can only be associated with copulation. I have a problem with people taking offense to the English language. It seems to me that they have far too much sex on their minds. Get over it!.
I think that the logo is fine. Why is it that these students can't find something more worthy of their efforts?

Ahh, what's wrong with copulation, its responsible for stuff from the Egyptian obelisks to most of advertising. We have a fashion store called F.C.U.K. with signs up all over. Every bus-stop billboard for BeBe is selling sex, as are most of the Macy's ones. At least Macy's gives equal time with 3x live size pix of the soccer player Beckham in his Armani briefs showing off his Posh Pouch for the entire city to see. Now, if he could only get Americans to watch soccer.
