Title: Boo!
Post by: Aimes on April 10, 2008, 03:36:31 PM
Sorry, needed something i little different from the 'hello' topic titles :P

So, I'm Aimes (pronounced Aims), or Aimee in 'real' terms ;) I'm a 21 year old (obvious from the name) girl. You can call me an MTF but hey, i'm just me :) I live in York, UK and im 18 months full time now and have my srs date set for the start of september with dr suporn :D

In other things, as all the rest is quite insignificant... I am currently in my final year of study at university, doing an undergraduate masters in chemistry, and it was only yesterday that i got confirmation of my second lot of 4 years at my uni with my funding application for a PhD being approved which i'll start in january after a bit of rest from the srs :) YAY :D

Other things, i've just finished (4 weeks ago now, i miss it) being LGBT office at my uni, which was great, i have bright red hair (pillar box red, but sometimes its a bit faded...) and for a little over a month i've been happily engaged (however she's away at the moment and i terribly miss her)... i love Heavy Metal music, but a little more on the symphonic/folk side, er, dunno what else to say really.

So thats me :)

p.s. trying to work out how to put a custom pic on the left :/

anyway, hello :)

Aw, how nice!

I'm not much of a computer-wiz (I only know how to operate the keys...) so I can't really help you the pic without making it a LOT more confusing.

Anyway, I'm happy for all the good stuff that seems to be going on in your life! Wow! Uhm, congrats on the missy, I wish you all the best of luck in the future. Yeah! How do you keep yourself occupied when she's away?

Eh, forgetting myself here.

Yeah, I'm Moira. And, uh...that's that. Pleasure to have you here, and I do hope you will contribute to the community with your experiences. And dooooooon't feel afraid to ask questions. Ever.

Ah, I gotta ask. What Heavy Metal bands are you particularly interested in? I'm looking for something with a bit more symponic touch, but I just don't know where to look! If you could name a few, then that'd be enough to get me started.

Oh, so many words I use! Rah!

Hi and welcome!

I'm Moi!

Do I need to say more than that? (Yes, I do, obviously  ::) )

Well, where to start! One of the most popular symphonic metal bands, which, in all honesty is a tiny bit more related to power metal than symphonic metal is Nightwish - essentially a power metal band fronted by a soprano. Try anything from them before their latest album, dark passion play. they fired the soprano as she wasnt too dedicated to the band, and replaced her with a pop singer :o to put it short, i hate the new singer, all from last week when i saw them live and she made a right cock up.

My favourite band in the world ever is Therion, i last saw on my birthday last year in wacken :D would have seen them in december if it didnt clash with my dads birthday :( Anyway, they started off in the early 90's as death metal, went a couple of albums, changed their style to more symphonic and then everyone left. but it carried on as a one man show with guest musicians. This band is hard to decribe though, as essentially, they are just Therion and they are unique. You have to sit down and listen to them. My favourite album is deggial. Everything continuously varies with them, instruments, styles, vocals. They are one of the few bans i can say where not a single song is like any other (with the expection of 2-part songs :P)

I'm going to stop waffling on about them so much :P

Another one i love is Within Temptation - but only the albums Enter, The Dance and Mother Earth. The first 2 are EPs and more Gothic Doom, but Mother Earth is a classic and i'd say symphonic (questionable though) their new stuff never got me in as it went into a popier direction.

Symphony X are a neoclassical metal band, Rhapsody (Of Fire) is another big symphonic metal band, but its male vocal dominated, and i prefer female vocals mostly. Leaves Eyes is another one i love, Epica too, Angtoria, Aina, Delain, Edenbride.

Hope this helps :)

What have i been doing since she's away? Procrastination mostly, avoiding work, shopping... yeah :P

I think a friend of mine has some Epica and Nightwish...I'll get him to send that.

Therion, I've never heard of, but it might be he knows a bit about them. He's been making me listen to all kinds of Finnish Metal for quite some time now, while I've been giving him soft singer/songwriter and indie music ^^

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely ask him about Therion, it sounds like it could be interesting.

Also, procrastinate now! Don't put it off.
