I've read much of the HRT forum and haven't seen the following asked, so here goes:

1.  Does HRT affect hair replacement therapy aversely? and
2.  There have been several comments about the effects of HRT on body hair.  On one hand, some have mentioned that body hair will thin due to HRT, thus not requiring other methods of removal.  However, one person told me should body hair removal prove necessary, it will be less effective once you're on HRT for a time.  When should one consider this procedure?

Keep in mind I am certainly no expert...

1. Part of HRT is the blocking/rendering ineffective of certain male juices. One of those in particular is responsible for male pattern baldness. Generally speaking HRT is good for hair, however I am unfamiliar with hair replacement therapy.
2. I am really not sure at all.

Medically speaking it depends on the type of hair replacement therapy your undergoing. For instance the only one Im sure of is the strand by strand method where they take follics from another part of your body and implant them in your scalp ( i forget the medical name for the procedure) these receptors would actually p\u on the female Hormone and thus enhance your results. Only the doctor administering the therapy would know for sure.

Secondly, It varies from individual to individual HRT works differently for everyone based on several factors like age, naturally hormone counts, metabalism, genes etc. If your serious I would start on an area that in general (and I am painting with a very large brush here) tends to remain an issue for most TS's The facial area the receptors there seems to thrive more of DHT (the potent form of testerone) then other areas of the body once you've start HRT you will find in what areas you need electrolyis on based on the effects of the hormones on you

But As Kimberly stated so accuratly I am certainly no expert either! :)

HRT helps with the effects of hair replacement.  It helps eliminate DHT or Dihydrotestosterone which is the cause of male pattern baldness.  There are some hair restoration products that should not be used with certain regiments of HRT and you should talk with your doctor about that. By the way, moving one or more hairshafts to a different location on your head is called hair transplants. 

I myself am having the small area where I had receding hair start growing back just from being on HRT.  I was originally considering transplants until this happened.  I think I won't need them at this point.

HRT is known to reduce body hair and in some cases eliminate it altogether.  If it is only reduced, then it usually grows in finer andlighter and hair removal techniques such as laser may not be as effective.  But then again, finer hair may be acceptable.

Also, HRT does not get rid of facial hair.

I have had body hair reduction on HRT.  I had a lot of extremely coarse hair covering pretty much everything.  I used an epilator to remove it, but it would regrow so fast that I had to do it twice a week.  It took about 5 months on HRT to see any change in body hair.  It is less dense and incredibly less coarse.  Now at 9 months on hrt.  Also, the hair is mostly white and colorless now.  It still grows longer than a natal woman's body hair.  However I now only need to epilate every other week.  I'm sure the follicles are still changing as time moves on.  Best I can say is have patience.  Hair was one of my major areas of dysphoria.

Yes, me and many others. Don't forget legs as well.

Everything below my neck except for pubic area has lost much of the body hair  from pre-HRT days.

It took time to really see a difference but I also think my high levels of E had something to do with it. My T is very low too, less than 10 ng/dl. I rarely have to shave anymore whereas before it used to be a weekly thing to keep things clean.

Mine too.  I wasn't super hairy to begin with but now I can go months without shaving my legs without any hair being visible.

Cuz i cant afford anymore to spend the money for body laser cuz i have to save it for ffs etc plus face laser cost me allready a lot..
So i though is it not a trow away money if i pay so much body body laser and in the end the hair will anyway go away cause of HRT

I've noticed some changes after 4 months on HRT to my body hair....my arms and legs are lighter and thinner. 

As for removal, well my wife and 2 daughters remind me....they have to do their legs and armpits, and they are ciswomen.  So, I shouldn't complain about shaving a few body parts from time to time...  ;)

I'm interested to know when body hair starts to go away or not regrow or what ever. 

I know YMMV but I'd like to know when it happened for others. 

Basically I want to know when I won't have to shave my boobies any more.

For me hair reduction happened pretty quickly, during the first year. 

A few years ago I did DIY HRT with no blockers, only E.  for the most part the hair that went away never came back, even after several years of no HRT and with high T.

I had electrolysis done to remove hair around chest and abdominal areas. It took about a year. No regrowth. :)

I'm with you Tonya. I read this thread saying yeah yeah, patience girls, hrt may help and yes you'll probably need electrolysis for the face and shave your legs etc until I read your post about shaving your boobs. I realized that this really struck a chord with me. I HATE hair on my boobs, especially the ones ringing my nipples!  I don't have a lot of body hair issues as my was light colored, mostly not long or  concentrated. I was a toehead blond and fair skinned all my life so  I have never been considered "hairy" But the hair around my nipples can grow longer and coarser than elsewhere and I HATE it!  I may even be dysphoric about it. I never thought about it that way.

I had very little body hair to start with (possibly from prenatal DES exposure), and what was there became much lighter and thinner by around 6 months on HRT.  At the 10 month point, much is gone, and what little is left is very slow growing.  The pubic growth pattern is changing a bit, which I had not expected.  Less and finer hair on the inner thigh near the groin is what I noticed the most there.

The beard is slower growing and finer as well, but that could be from electrolysis having already picked off the more mature and faster growing follicles.

The short answer is no HRT will actually help your hair implants ....the thing to watch out for is thyroid issues because that will make you lose your hair...My implants are 12 months 5 months as they were done in 2 lots and hair loss due to thyroid problems was the biggest thing the Dr Carried on about mainly due to me having issues, I take thyroxine to stabilise my levels and it all seems fine...last check up I had my Dr was astounded by the amount of new hair growth bought on by HRT alone.

many people report having hair regrowth including me, Most seem to be talking up near the temple areas however in my case, yes.... I did have some growth in places that my Hair Dr declared as follicle wastelands...he was stunned that I had a heap of natural growth on top left and right like a really high forehead on each side...he seemed to feel it may have been stimulated by the hair implant process in conjunction with the HRT...nothing solid to back that up with.

As to where you get it....YMMV(Your mileage may vary)

I've had no hair transplants or even Rogaine use yet, and was on finasteride for another medical issue for several years.  That stuff supposedly reduces hair loss.

About 6 months into HRT I started to regain some hair around the edges of the pattern baldness, and a little hair growth across the top of the head forward of the crown, the last area where I had lost hair.  The shiny forehead and crown are still bare of any hair, alas.  So, I would say it helps a little on recently lost hair.

It is certainly possible but depends on a number of factors such as genetics, level of baldness, amount of time since going bald, cause of balding, just to name a few, but there are certainly instances of transwomen experiencing profound regrowth. The consensus seems to be that if you lost it between 2 & 5 years ago, there is a chance you can experience some regrowth, more likely on the crown than hairline. If you still have vellus hair or just just thin hair you have a much better chance than if you are completely bald with the shiny top. I've got thin hair and I'm seeing some signs of regrowth just from Finasteride before I had even started the hrt, and I was looking on ->-bleeped-<- transtimeline pages for inspiration. There are some ladies there who have had some crazy regrowth without any other intervention. There definitely aren't any guarantees though, and any progress can take months if not years.

most of my balding was the result of large amounts of testosterone shots when i was trying to be this bulky body builder now i just want to be a nice fit girl but would love to have my hair back without having to spend a fortune with implants lol :)

I been on HRT a couple months and from what I have heard it seems that in not-too-distant future my body hair will probably begin to "thin and lighten" albeit gradually.  So I determined that if I do want to do IPL (similar to laser) on chest and arms, then I had better do it sooner than later as it will only work while the hair is still dark.

  I am getting professional laser on my face, as that is most difficult to get rid of and most sensitive and crucial area to have done right.   The rest of the whole bod would cost quite a lot to get professional laser, and might not be entirely necessary.  So I bought a Remington iLight IPL (similar to laser) for DIY just on my chest and arms and I have been hitting it at max recommended as per proper usage instructions.  It works.

Since there is a combo of HRT and the IPL at work here, it is hard to say precisely which is having most effect.  Places I do not use the IPL unit are as yet still staying very coarse body hair, but the chest and arms where I do use the IPL are almost completely no-hair left and it is not growing back.  This is after only about 3 months since starting HRT, so it seems the combo has served me quite well.

IPL, I don't think is effective at permanently reducing hair and with laser, hairs may regrow months to years after the last session. It's a gamble. Electrolysis is more worthwhile.

Was moderately hairy before HRT (about 10 months on HRT). Had 3 sessions of full body laser, and it zapped most of my darker hairs, but I'm a natural blond, so there was plenty left over. :(
I epilate my body everywhere except my pubic and facial hair. Between, laser, epilating and HRT my hair is a bit thinner and grows a little slower, but not much. I still have to epilate my chest and belly at least once a week and my legs twice a week.

I'm starting low dose Bicalutamide tomorrow to hopefully kill this damn body hair once and for all!

I have had decent receding head hairline regrowth from HRT. My head hair is much thicker and fuller than it has been in as long as I can remember. I took Finesteride for a little while, but stopped trying to isolate negative side effects. I apply Lipogaine topically to the corners of my forehead and have some decent regrowth there.

I would of course be happier to have even more hair on my hairline, but I'm not unhappy with the way it is filling out. It grows very fast and fuller now, with very little shedding. The avatar picture is only a few weeks old, and you can see it's not too bad. ;)

My hair reduced on my hands and my forearms.

Still got my hairy legs though after 3 months of HRT, which is natural as it takes surely 12 months until real progress will be visible.
