Title: Questions about HRT

I have a few Q's on HRT as I would like to start it (M2F):
1-Body fat gets re-distributed; What if there isn't much to work with?
2-I have always had skinny arms, will they get much thinner?
3-Does body weight affect how much a dosage takes to the body? (I am VERY skinny)
I WILL HAVE MORE... (I just can't think right now...)

Look i haven't started hormones either, but from what i know....
1. if there is not much fat to work with, the existing one (regardless of
quantity) is going to be redistributed. If you want more curvy figure than
gain weight and it will settle on places typical for female (buttocks, hips etc.)
2. muscles will be reduced, but to what extent is determined by their current
volume; if there isn't much to lose than you wont
3. i am not sure about this but i think it doesn't
hope this helps, but remember that the best source of information (and the
only reliable) is your endocrinologist....
best wishes

I would like to add a few things to what Mari said.
1 - A side effect of HRT is that your appetite will increase. As a result, you will probably build up some extra fat reserves, so that will help with your figure.
2 - Probably not too much, but you will lose some muscle mass & physical strength. Working out will help minimize this.
3 - Dosage is going to based on your testoterone levels more than your body mass.
From personal experience, I suggest talking with your prescribing physician about starting at a low dose and working your way up. Being slammed with estrogen at the levels needed to start transitioning does terrible things to your emotional stability. Adding a few extra months to your transition so you can adjust to the new body chemistry is time well spent.

1. If there's not much there, then not much will happen. As was mentioned, you are likely to gain weight, which is a good thing. Your body will need that.
2. No, not if there's no fat to begin with. But be aware that there will also be changes in muscle density. You will lose upper body strength, so I would recommend lifting weights.
3. Yes, of course it does. But in selecting a dosage, the doctor is going to be more interested in percentage of free hormones in your blood. Presumably you will have blood tests to determine that, and doctor will be working off of those numbers.
