Title: Your final resting place?
Post by: Nero on May 04, 2008, 12:05:54 AM
I'm looking into a plot near my husband. If none is available, I'll be as near as possible to my Grandmother.
How about you?

Sprinkle my ashes on or near the ocean. No memorial. Let me just fade away into obscurity.

I want to be cremated.  Half of me will be buried in my family's cemetery in Paris.  The other half... ...I want shot into an EF-5 tornado. I'm fascinated by them, and after I die, I want to go for the ride of my life and be in one of them.  Too wild?

That's a great idea Jeannette. I once wanted to be a storm ->-bleeped-<- so that I could study tornadoes up close. Alas I've only witnessed 3 that have come through my town.

I am to be cremated and my ashes are to be spread about under some young oak trees here.  Someday, in about two hundred years, they will be mature.  It's the closest real thing next to a second life in my mind.

I have told my parents that there is a hands off clause in my final papers. They may have nothing to do with my remains once I die.  I'm also going to rewrite my will and state that if I am not disposed of properly, my personal assets will be given to the local SPCA instead of the beneficiaries listed.

I want no funeral or viewing.  However, if any of my friends wish to have a wake, they are perfectly welcome to do so.  I just ask that they play some good loud rock and roll.

I'm going to be buried in Grant's Tomb, so I'll be the answer to the trivia question.  And, for real, I've requested my ashes be spread in Lake Tahoe.

I want to be buried in a cemetery next to my family and my husband if I ever get married.  Please don't burn me, that's all I ask.  I've been burnt too many times in this life.

Boy do I agree with you Cindi, Me I would like my ashes to be sprinkled under some big old pine trees like those on the hillside behind the homestead but if not possible then if Wing Walker goes before me then I am certainly not going to give a hoot what happens to my remains, I won't be here anyways. In spirit we are joined as one.

Personally, if money was no object, I want my remains blasted out into deep space.

I very much like the idea of having the ashes spread at the roots of a young tree. I'm none too fond of the ocean, so that's a no-go.

I hope I will find a place to settle down, eventually, a place that will mean a lot to me, and I would have my ashes spread there so I can stay there forever.

Until they build a new shopping mall on top of me.

Which I would then haunt.

Should be fun!

Take whatever parts can be used and then, cremated if there is enough energy. The ashes if the ashes can be recycled efficiently then do that. After I am dead I do not care what the living do.

I'm having my body given up for medical testing (for future doctors), medical/scientific research and organ donation.

I won't be using it and I think it's a waste for it to just be buried or cremated. Hopefully they'll use up everything.  Anything left over can just be thrown out with other forms of biological waste.

Hi Pia, I can feel and have also experienced  what you have said. I am certainly glad those days are over I am loving the way my life is now for however much of my life is left I am living it to the fullest and death and dying the farthest from my mind right now, I feel vigorous and I fell young inside which I think is a rarity for someone 62 years old

Woke up this morning
Put on my slippers
Walked in the kitchen and died
And oh what a feeling!
When my soul
Went thru the ceiling
And on up into heaven I did ride
When I got there they did say
John, it happened this way
You slipped upon the floor
And hit your head
And all the angels say
Just before you passed away
These were the very last words
That you said:

Chorus:
Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have "em" cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size
Give my stomach to Milwaukee
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
Just get "em" out of here
Venus de Milo can have my arms
Look out! I've got your nose
Sell my heart to the junkman
And give my love to Rose

Repeat Chorus

Give my feet to the footloose
Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ass goodbye

I want to be cremated, and then my ashes compressed to form a diamond. As for the diamond it can be chucked wherever, buried in the garden, flushed down the loo, or be placed in a bottle and given to a young hobbit to help him in times of great darkness.. ;D

Definitly cremated though. Maybe my ashes could be secretly mixed into all the burger patties at McDonalds? Or, more likely I would like my ashes to be placed in a bronze sculpture of a peaceful curled up sleeping cat and placed somewhere that gets a lot of sun. I would like that, sleeping in the sun as a cat.

I guess the place is irrelevant, for when it's time for me to go, I don't think I'll get the chance to choose where to be. I'd like to see all the faces who have ever sent friendly smiles my way, followed by those I've loved, then I want to feel absolute ecstasy, a rush of pure happiness and adrenaline. Then in a sky of air, I want to float and buzz alone with complete flexibility.

The staff of the new king, I think, meet the new boss, same as the old boss.  After a while I think a lot of this was done with icons like the terracotta army in China.

Though I really like the idea of the Heb Sed.

Back when i was doing airborne search & rescue, I had my funeral planned out as well as a letter written to the family.  When the phone rang at 2AM, we were wheels-up within the hour.  I had to think about it so they wouldn't have to.

Now, when my time comes, I hope I face death with my eyes wide open.

I don't feel like dying anytime soon. However, as much as I love the idea of being part of the family plot in Germany, I don't want to be cremated. As of now, I'd probably want my body buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN... my home regardless of where I go. Maybe in 200 years, okay? Here's hoping.

Hi Chris, well at least I had my go at having kids under my roof, eleven of them to be precise. Nieces, nephews, my own three children, one foster daughter, and the latest was when I had just begun full time.   I had three foster children in my care for two years, that was about six years ago. Goodness, how does time fly.

It tore me up watching those kids leave. I knew that there would not be any more kids under my roof. The idea of spending the rest of my life alone also scared me, I'm not getting younger. Then 6 years ago I met Wing Walker and four years later we got married here in Ontario. She has been a God send for me.

As for when I die, I hope it is in my sleep where my consciousness will only need to pass through the thin grey veil to the next world.  I see me as a girl-child with freckles and fiery red hair flying behind her as she runs across a field to join her friend at the bottom of the hill.  She can feel the adrenaline race through her as she felt that at any moment she would be airborne from the speed she moved at.

At the bottom of the hill she slowed her run to a fast walk then threw her arms around her friend and just continued to hug her friend that she had missed since she had crossed through the thin grey veil. They sat next to a babbling brook and shared many stories that day.

Having that stuff, you get responsibilities that are all but impossible to imagine otherwise.  Without my kids and GF I would do one big summer tour and spend the rest of my time hiking, climbing and skiing in Tahoe.  But my GF made huge sacrifices to be with me, and she asks, in exchange, that I not bug out for 4 months at a time and leave her here alone.  And I feel the responsibility to my kids to pay for their college, because I told them if they made it to a good school, I would pay for it. Damn if they didn't do it.  So, I still work.

And, when I die, I do not want to burden them with that.  I would hope their grief would be enough.  The rest has been taken care of and paid for.  Hell, I even put the songs I wanted for the wake or whatever on a CD.  And the will.  Who gets what.  And some statement of why.  Your young, and I'm old, and in the difference in those years are real estate, insurance policies, personal effects, and other property that needs to be distributed.

I also have a close friend who has keys, passwords and all the rest so that certain items, including my hard drives will be destroyed.

If your not there yet, I'm sure you will be.

Easy...find a plain pine box.  Do not embalm me or pump me full of chemicals or make me look like I am not dead.  Do not put me in a concrete vault that will last for eons.  Just place me in my family cemetery.  I don't even need a headstone.  Don't have everyone ogle me and make remarks.  Just put my guitar in my hands and let me go.  I will be so glad when it happens.

I'd never leave my organs either, if I have used them up - and I'm trying real hard to - then the rest is just Darwin in action.  You live as long as your body lets you live, no help from me.

There is just to much to live for to be thinking of death and how one is going to get buried, or cremated or turned into chemicals in a test tube or petre dish in some obscure laboratory. They can do what ever they please after I am dead because I will be out there someplace piloting an alien space craft towards a newly discovered star simply named Agathar.
