Title: Got ma'am'ed today!
Post by: Hazumu on June 15, 2006, 08:10:11 PM
Okay, here's my "first time I got ma'am'ed" story...

I was waiting in an abnormally long line for my breakfast omlette (they were training a new griddle cook, and he couldn't hack it.)  A more experienced cook took over, and the line sped up a bit.

I wasn't trying to act like anything in particular, and I was dressed in a polo shirt (but from Lane Bryant,) and khaki chinos.

"What would you like, ma'am?" he asked me...

I tried not to react or look surprised/pleased.  In the best female resonance I could muster at the moment, I answered, "Could I have an omlette with onions, mushrooms, and cheese, please?", as if this was the normal, everyday occurance I hope it will become.

"Uh, what was that again -- sir?" he asked.

DAMN!!!

But the moment was there, and I'm smiling as I write this!

It's a great feeling isn't it Ma'am.  ;D
I love it when I'm am address and treated like a woman.
Wait till a man opens the door for you.
Anyway when Im out I usually just soften my voice and I pass.
Have you noticed that women usually end on a high note?
It's not how pitch but the way you say things. I know lots of woman with tenor voices and a few with base voices.
Karen just keep working at it, I know you will get it.

Oh yeah, I guess that doesn't normally happen to men.  I kind of got used to that.

Don't overdo it though.  My speech therapist was pleased with how well I did it correctly.  It just came naturally.
If it's a statement, it actually goes down a little at the end, but not exactly in pitch.  It's hard to explain, I just do it.

So Melissa you're taken the little perks for granite already. Shame on you. ;D

I agree completely. My female voice comes naturally to me too. At first my therapist always knew when I was talking instead of the old male side. I have a softer, gentler voice.

I actually have 2 female voices.  There's my lazy one that comes naturally, then there's the one I developed in speech therapy that works great over the phone.  It depends on my mood as to which one I'll use.  They both seem to pass in person.

Well, this happens while I am in male mode.

Almost there...
If you're having problems with achieving a passable feminine voice, you may try finding a speech therapist or you may choose the less expensive alternative, one of the many videos or dvd's made by MTF transsexuals.
Good luck and congratulations for having been ma'am'ed!!!

Karen i am so glad for you. You must have the look down pretty well. Its all just a process of eliminating bits and pieces of the former male facade. A while back I looked in the mirror and cried because I felt I would always just look like a guy in a dress but now I pass pretty well. I'm not flawless but none of us are. Keep on keepin on, girl friend! We're pullin for you!
