Title: Are some mechanical abilities lost after HRT ?
Post by: gina on May 12, 2008, 10:58:37 AM
Maybe a little strange of a question, but I'm serious and please I mean no offense to anybody..I'm not insinuating anything but a question I been wanting to ask for a while.

Pre HRT there was almost nothing I was not able to fix...from cars to home repairs...to electronics...

Now after 4+ years on hormones I notice I fail on alot of things I try to repair, and have this fear of jumping right in to try to solve the problem as it seems so massive now as years ago Pre HRT nothing did. Dont get me wrong, I would never want to be how I was pre HRT but I'm just curious if anyone else experienced this...or am I just crazy...lol

After six months I feel the opposite is happening as far as I am concerned; when I need to fix things I am far more organised than I used to be and seem to think things through better. Perhaps it's just that I'm more relaxed and less stressed now I've got the right hormones inside me. No, I don't need any man to do those jobs for me. Not yet anyway!!

Other than the loss of some strength and the dislike of getting dirty I still can fix just about anything. I am a stickler for doing things the best they can be done I have no interest in duct tape.

To be honest, I would have no idea. I lost my mechanical abilities sometime prior to this birth.

Funny, some of the best mechanics I know are female.  Really, there is no connection between T and E and an increase or decrease in mechanical ability.

This seems more a self-assurance thing.

I know a girl who transitioned and still is a mechanic and rides a 200 mph motorcycle
so hey...

I still work in the mechanical field and after 8 months on the Hormones,  I have only noticed a difference in attitude and approach and that I mainly attribute to the balance my body and mind and hormones now correctly have 8).

HRT caused me to loose the will and interest to play video games <for the most part> but it hasn't hampered my mechanical or electrical abilities...

I still fix electronics, and cars, and do HVAC repair work... Honestly I'm better at it now because I want to actually FIX things instead of patching them back together temporarily so they can hold to be fixed LoL.

My only problem anymore is... having to find someone else to do the hard work... breaking stuck bolts loose, and heavy lifting and the like... I've lost the majority of my muscle mass.... I'm still nice and toned <upper body> from playing the drums... but loosing 10in in your arms is 10 in lost in your arms....

Nah, I haven't noticed a difference. I'm probably better at fixing things now actually, being more patient... and not as angry and frustrated all the time. Not literally from the HRT, but from transitioning overall.

It could very well be a self-assurance thing, never really thought about that, or maybe my age is catching up to me... either way thanks for the feedback everyone.

Hmmm......pre-hrt, over 3 yrs ago, I could fix anything.  Don't care what, if it's broke, I could fix 'er.
But, now that I'M an 'er rather than a he, I can still fix things, but I don't have the same drive to do so.  I seem to have lost a lot of interest.  Also, I still don't have the strength to do many things, and depend too often on a male to do the heavy tasks (with my guidance) ;) .  Many of the smaller, more delicate repairs I still do, usually by request, and I am better than ever at diagnosing what, about a thing is 'broke'.
But I don't like getting dirty, and I hate it when I chip a nail (Guys, insert smirk here), but a good set of nails is expensive (to me, anyway).
Now, then, can you imagine me chit chatting with another woman, one moment, speaking fluent female, and then suddenly breaking in with how I took out a tree limb with my reciprocating saw?  Yah....she'd give me a strange look.....maybe kick my ass. Depends......if she's the independent type, she might be impressed.
