Title: trans christian books sugestion???
Post by: Kinkly on May 14, 2008, 12:23:57 PM
I'm searching for answers about how my faith can fit with my gender Identity and are wondering if anyone can suggest any good books from a loving Christian view point I'd prefer books that are not limited to the binary gender roles as I'm a feminine androgyne currently with a very male body
I don't know if there would are any that focus on androgyne
I'm wanting anything that will help me believe that god didn't stuff up when he made me
please say why you liked a book

While they are primarily written for gay/lesbian Christians, you might take a look at some of Chris Glasser's books.  They are generally available at any mainstream book store, usually under the Religion or Alternative Lifestyle sections.  And if you can't find them anywhere else, try Charis Books (http://charis.booksense.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp) in Atlanta. Also, go to the Grace and Lace Newsletter (http://members.tgforum.com/bobbyg/tgfgnl.html) and move down to the "Message from Julie Johnson" area.  There you will find information on ordering or downloading "BY THE GRACE OF GOD," a compilation of essays from Lee Frances Heller, Terri Lynn Main, Dr. Rebecca Anne (Becky) Allison, and other transgendered Christian writers.

I've not read any of Chris' books myself but I know a minister who uses his books in counseling youth who are questioning both sexual identity and gender.    As for "BY THE GRACE OF GOD", you would have to read it to understand why I liked it.  All I can say beyond that is the essays are written by some VERY intelligent trans people.

argh, i was too slow again  :(, I was also going to recommend by the grace of god.
But it is very good, and very well written, and definitely helped may when i was feeling that all christianity was judgemental and mean!

Well, will one girls word of her experiences suffice perchance? Albeit, I do not follow any religion, nor am I overly fond of some of style of things. (The pomp and circumstance mostly, priests in a special outfit torque me something mightily as an example.) But anyway my gripes with religion aside, one does not need religion to find what religion calls "GOD", simpler Father is there with or with out you realizing it. An that said, and I offer ONLY my words in this, although I think they are words worth heeding. Father is very very clever.

An from a TS point of view, what I am right here, right now, is not a "mistake". You, each and every last one of you, are so very special. Do not let the word of man mislead you in your search for the divine.

Best of luck and happiness to you.

When your inner self is so weird that society will not accept you (bearded Lady)  and you have beaten brain cancer & you've never felt loved (as anything more that a friend) you wonder if god realy did stuff up I do have a strong faith that has held me together and while I can see how god guided me to here I'm unable to see where god is pointing me now and i'm scared of what god wanting me to do now

i just read a book by rev jeff minor, pastor at mcc chruch, indianapolis called, "the children are free".  while this book too is primarily about homosexuality, well...reconciling christian scripture and homosexuality, as a ts i found it very helpful and informative.

just as transsexuality is not a psychological pathology in itself it very often leads one into a g.i.d., it can also create some dysphoria when it comes to sexual orientation.  scripture, at least on the surface, is mute on transsexualism but makes frequent reference to homosexuality.  some texts are affirming while others seem clearly to be admonistions against the practice.  rev minor takes a look at many of the passages and, at least for me, put a new look on many of the negative inferences.  if nothing else, just his way of reading without bias is unusual and very interesting.  i would recommend this book to any and all who are seaching.

I can recommend 2 books:

1.  Omnigender  By Virginia Mollencott

2.  Trans-gendered  by Justin Tanis

I have met and talked with both authors and I respect them greatly.  Omnigender studies the Biblical references to trans-issues, and the other discusses the Church's role in ministering to trans people.

If you buy from Amazon, their packaging is discreet. It doesn't say what the book is, only that it's from Amazon.

There's also By the Grace of God which is kind of a book, but entirely available online.

I know..but my parents are nosey and would want to know what it is if I got it in the mail. There is a way I could get a book online without my dad knowing (my mom knows I'm trans and I think she'd let me get it) Once I get money for it, I might try that

I see. You could have it shipped to someone else's house or have it shipped at a time your parents are gone. Or, just make sure you get to the mailbox before them. You could talk to your post office and see if they'll hold it to be picked up by yourself in person.

You could also probably get your local library to get them for you.  That would be free.

Oh yeah! I read Vanessa Sheridan's book that way. In Illinois it's called Interlibrary Loan.

Hello,
I am brand new here but if I can suggest a "good" book if you need to know anything about God and what he wants you to know about you is, the BIBLE.
