AT 85, JACK STROUSS STILL VIVIDLY REMEMBERS serving as a gay man during World War II at a time when "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" did not exist.
"They [military officials] didn't really worry unless you were overt" about being gay, he says. "And I was open with many people because there were so many gay people serving. From basic training to my time out of the service, there were many gay people."
