Anyone tried this test out? What is your opinion of it? I know it is probably another load of bullcrap, but I actually thought for a while it might be a little valid.

I know I'm probably going to be impaled, decapitated, and have my guts ripped out, but please try and keep the hatred down to a minimum...

I normally score between 125 and 135 on IQ tests.  This one I scored 105.  I think that some of it has to do with the fact that the timer has something to do with my slow interface to the net.  Also, it was very different and I didn't catch on to the shape thing very well.  And if it isn't any of those, I'm just dumbing down, which is entirely possible.

Similar gap here, Cindi. Usually score about 150-155 on tests with Cattel distribution, scored 121 on this.

It took me a while to get the hang of the shapes (also I didn't see that A and B, which are beside the patterns, are possible answers rather than part of the patterns for about 15 questions).

I may try it again to see if the score changes.

Or, I could be just dumbing down with age and not enough Arrogant Bastard Ale in my system.

Nah... I love these kinds of tests... they are a challenge more than anything. I'll try it when I'm feeling
more fresh and report my score. How long does it take?

I tend not to do IQ tests. Or rather, I do them, but stop before it comes up with the result. I like doing the questions, but I'm happy remaining blissfully ignorant of my IQ itself. ;)
     A few years ago (I was 16 or 17), I tried a some, and one said my IQ was 117, another 147, and another 162. :icon_neutral:
I also have issues with some of the questions themselves - I started one recently, but it was obviously written in America for Americans, 'cause it talked about dimes and quarters and which city was in which state (state? county?) and states' respective sizes - e.g. Which is larger, Texas, New Mexico, New York or Pennsylvania? (sorry about spelling if it's wrong! :-\). As I live in Adelaide (Australia), these 'general knowledge' questions aren't as 'general' as the name suggests. This is probably the biggest problem I have with IQ tests - they tend to rely on 'general knowledge' that is really only general to specific areas. It'd be like writing an IQ test for someone from Oslo and asking if the tallest building in Adelaide is the Santos building or the Festival Centre. Most people in Adelaide would know, but it's fairly certain that not many Norwegians would (or anyone else, for that matter :laugh:). So yes, I have big issues with them.

That said, however, I have a great time doing the other questions! ;D

As for this test...I'll get back to you on that. ;)

Interesting...the layout was a bit confusing, which doesn't help in a timed test. Didn't finish it either (Mum and brother arrived home and started asking me questions), but what I did get to do was fun. :D

If the lunatics in the asylum write the sanity test, most would be considered sane, so who is to say who is a genius and who is not?

I don't put much stock in them, but of the ones I have taken I usually score quite high.

I think just about everyone does -- well at least me -- because most of the online iq tests I have taken are really trashy...

IQ test results tend to be used to establish some sort of 'smart credential' for people who are have great trouble proving it any other way.

I never take these. I suck so bad at Math, I'd probably come up in the retarded range.

Most are not based on math, but logic.
Mensa uses movie quotes and other oddities.

That's why I don't mess with those questionnaires. When I tested my self for IQ in college, sheeeeeesh that was to many years ago, well, a long time ago anyway. I tested at 150 back then. The last time I tested myself on the Internet it was about 4 years ago, I was 120. I wouldn't fret to much about it Cindi. I have spent enough time on this group with you to know you are way more smarter then that, you are certainly not small time stuff in the brain department, ;D and that's good enough for me. No need to respond to this post if you desire not to.

heh...I'm not so good at the ones that are only shapes.  I took a real iq test once and I scored 127.  I only got 97 on this one.  I prefer a test that is more well-rounded, that includes verbal and other things.  I have a bad habit of making things harder than they are, so a patterns test is hard for me.  :D

I got 113 which is in the low end range I score on my online iq test scores. My test scores generally fall in the range 112 - 129.  I really don't care this kind of test too much of the same thing. I had a real IQ test as a kid to see why I was having trouble in school they said I was above average then next comes in the school counselor and then the social workers oh my.

Since I actually know I have taken a real iq test as a kid, I might as well share what it feels. It feels like s**t to score so low on an iq test as to probably never have a chance in life at anything. Too bad, I can't shove this paper into the computer so that everyone believes me.

Not long ago a person hanging out in our world tried to tell us how high their IQ was and one of my buds said "Gee, if you're that smart how come your not rich or happy, even idiots find a way to be happy and many of us even make money."  That ended that.

It ain't about tests.  It's about life.  If your a success in life, no one cares about the tests.

IQ scores don't really mean much.  And just because someone can score high on a test doesn't mean they'll be successful.  Believe me on that one.  I had a 3.98/4.0 in high school and I am not a successful person.  I'm a temp who barely makes ends meet.  Tests aren't relevant in real life. 

I don't care anymore. It isn't something that particuliarly bothers me. The WISC is just another tool to make people hate themselves. Just another f**ked up way for those ->-bleeped-<-s with their giant degrees to make me feel like garbage.

Most of the people I know Polly who have those degrees don't waste their time writing tests, much less worrying about the answers, which is why most of us don't teach anymore.  There are other things to do.  For me that making people feel good about themselves while helping millionaires make a few more bucks.

I have never been asked my I.Q. when interviewing for a job or as qualification to be friends or anything else for that matter.

Just because you score low on an I.Q. test does not make you an idiot. I can score high on them and on certain other types of tests, but at the same time, I scored extremely low on a military exam. So what, does that one test make me stupid? Nope, it just means I am weak in that area. I may not be able to file paperwork worth a damn, but I can do some amazing math in my head, repair a fighter jet, or fix a dvd player.


There was an old skit on I think Mad TV, they had a Mensa meeting or similar, everyone there was supposed to be geniuses. As the janitor came through someone made a rude comment towards him to the effect of if he had a higher I.Q. he would not be doing what he does. Turned out he had a higher I.Q. than anyone in the room, he just enjoyed being a janitor as it had zero stress and me made a decent income. That is exactly how it is in real life. 

I have met engineers with high I.Q.'s who could not keep from locking themselves out of their own homes as they had zero common sense. Some doctors I have met are the same way. I have even met some really smart people living on the street. Point is, don't put much faith into I.Q. tests or any other test indicating how smart or dumb you are. There are smart, stupid and geniuses at all income levels, it means nothing in life really.

I guess I'm the only god honest person around. Am I the only one to admit this? What the hell? I scored a 95 on the WISC at ten years old. The irony is that on average my score on online iq tests including the ones I have posted is around 122-128 on the stanford-binet scale.

I could've said anything to you all. I could've said I had an iq of 180. Instead, I told the god honest truth.

You're making a lot of assumptions, poly.  Those of us who've told you things we're good at are making a point...just because we're good at one thing doesn't mean we're good at everything or successful or anything else.  For one thing, to call the people who replied liars, is incredibly rude and unjustified.  How do you know they didn't score what they said?  You don't.  And for the record, online IQ test scores are often incorrect.  Most are there for fun.  It's not something to take so seriously.

No one is trying to rub anything in your face.  Guess what?  I have a college degree.  So what?  It doesn't make me more or less of a person just like not having a degree doesn't mean someone is more or less of a person because of it.  I made good grades in school because I know how to take a test.  It doesn't mean that I'm particularly smart...I'm not.  It's not something to get bent out of shape about.

So take deep breath and calm down a little.  I would suggest that if you read something on the forum that makes you angry, to not respond to it.  Wait until you are feeling better and read it again.  Because we don't go out of our way to make people feel bad.  Every person on this site has had to deal with bad things and we know what it's like to hurt.  We don't want to hurt you or anyone else.  Keep that in mind.  We're here to help each other.
 

I don't use my big huge degrees to make other feel inferior or small, but the do a swell job of covering some ugly spots on the wall of my office, where no one but me and my GF ever see them. 

I'll tell you a secret. Most of the PhDs I know spend all their time worrying that they are not worthy and praying that people never find out that they are not that smart.  In fact, the more you learn, the more you know that you don't know squat.  The old joke is that a college freshman can describe the universe in less than two pages but a grad student needs fifty pages just to describe a blade of grass.

Or as one of my best high school teachers once said "It takes an IQ of 90 to get a basic degree, an IQ of 60 to get a masters, and an IQ of about 2 to get a PhD."

Nor do they spend anytime telling anyone else how smart they are.  Smart is like 'cool' or 'enlightened' -- if you have to describe yourself like that, you so obviously missed the mark that's its not worth commenting on.

All a degree means is that you were good at school.  An advanced degree means that the stuff in school, notes, studying and tests that most people didn't like, you did - you couldn't get enough of it.  At least until the end, after the three day written test and the half day oral exam, after which I refuse to take any test that ain't a taste test.  I was cured alright as the line at the end of Clockwork Orange goes.

No one is here to make you feel bad.  You read that into it yourself.  But its not true.  We are here to share and help.  Its not all the people all the time, or even all the people some of the time. So it goes.

I look at people who are good or successful and ask myself what qualities they have that I might emulate.  And I try to do that if I can.  Sometimes I can't.  There are times when the people I jam with and play a party or two with - well, we think we sound pretty damn hot.  Then, a few nights later I have to watch Carlos Santana or Jeff Beck play and its all I can do not to soak my guitars in lighter fluid and torch them when I get home.  But I get over that, and then I think "Wow, he did this" can I do that too?  So I try.  Do I get to Jeff or Carlos level?  Not even in my dreams.  But do I learn.  Ya, from time to time.  But there are other times when I try, and try, and try, and it turns out that I ain't Carlos or Jeff.  No how.  No way.

Life gives you the teachers you need when you need them.  So my question is... Are you open to that when it happens. 

As the Dead used to sing 'Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.'  Not a bad deal, but you have to be open to it.

You want to know why I can't believe it. I can't believe it because that is my coping mechanism. I can't accept something that is better than me. I can't do it no matter how hard I try. It just will not work. I don't care if you really did take an iq test. Just don't expect me to believe that crap.

God, I hope my parents are so proud of me. They expected me to be the next high and mighty genius of the world. I'm sure I was such a disappointment to them. I'm just a retard with major problems. Too bad they don't know how much it hurts to have a low iq. It sucks.

You make me wonder why you ever needed a degree in the first place. Are you afraid to do work such as ditch digging? Are you afraid of it? So afraid you needed a big fancy degree...Honestly, the only good thing one of those papers that says you are a post doctoral graduate or whatever is good for is as an asswipe.

You completely missed the point.

Some careers require that piece of paper, for others it opens doors to those careers. It still does not prove anything other than the fact that you did the work.  Some jobs you can get into without a degree even if one is desired. I.T. is like that.

While you may look down on the ditch digger, he gets out in the sun, lots of exercise and it is low stress. Is it really that  bad of a job? Sure it could pay more, but he never has to worry about his stocks or if the server has crashed. A bad day for a ditch digger means he dug in the wrong place and has to start over. A bad day for an executive could mean he just bankrupted the company and everyone who invested in it.

You have high goals for yourself, start working towards them, you cannot expect to go from school to your dream job. I have managed to do about 90% of the jobs I wanted to do in life and I still have time to knock out a few more. You just have to work towards them, ignore the finish line, work on each step. Everything is like that.

Jessica Simpson was supposedly tested in 5th grade and shown to have a 160 I.Q. (I'll believe it when I see it).

Chees wiz, I don't want to get into any conflicts here but I was in grade five when I quit school when I was 15, joined the hippies and 3 years later I went back to adult retraining and got my grade 12 equivalent. I worked in factories, I dug ditches, shoveled horse ->-bleeped-<-, pitched hay with a hay fork, shoveled snow, mowed lawns, painted barns and houses, picked oranges in the orchards in Florida right along side the Mex folks; did some commercial fishing on Lake Okeechobee with Seminoles on the Seminole res. Anyway that kept me going for ten years while traveling the east coast of Canada and US. When I came back home to Ontario I took a course and graduated as a social worker. I don't know if I'm genius stuff or not, I just had more fun then anyone can have goofing around the better half of two countries. Last year my mate and I moved to Vancouver BC. I don't regret one second of all that traveling see, but it was time for Cindy's turn to come out and live her life.

Your kidding right?  I grew up on a ranch out West, and like a good hippie spend more than enough time (10 years) living out on a farm in Iowa.  Bet I've dug a lot more ditches than you have.  And laid a lot more irrigation pipe too.

And I don't do PHD type work (sorry Nichole I know you hate this lecture) I'm a union journeyman, I begin each day by unloading 53 foot semi trucks and end the day by loading 53 foot semi trucks, with boxes that are five feet long, by three feet wide, and three feet deep filled with solid pure copper cable.  In between those two moments, and that like 12 hours at least ........ I unpack that stuff, move it, set it up, pack it up, tear it down, and somewhere in there between a thousand to 20 thousand people get the show of their life.  In some of the most famous venues in rock music, with bands that you even know.

I work with people who barely made it thought high school, and with people who have advanced degrees from places like MIT.  We are all there for the same reason.  We love the show.

I live for the sun, I'm much darker than my Mexican GF, a fact that I point out to her all the time.  (She hates it.)  But I am first, last and always, a California Girl.

But I do live a PHD life.  I work about 30 weeks a year (based on a 40 hour work week) the fact that I bunch that work up in fewer days, well, that works for me.  The fact that I never work in January so I can ski, and try hard not to work in the summer, because you only have so many summers, well, that's my choice.  That a lot of my work is in time and a half, to double time, well, that's just less time I have to work, more time I have to ski.

I don't look down on anyone who really works. I have nothing but contempt for those who sit on the sideline and don't do squat.

And I had my dream job long before I ever went for my first college degree.  It just took me a few decades to understand that.  But, I know from my studies that I'm not the first person to go around the world only to find out that were I should be was where I was to begin with.  But, that makes it so much sweeter in the long run in the end.

How many grandmaster level chess players are of average intelligence? If you can find one, then I may start to look up in life. If you haven't heard about what I like to do, I love playing chess. One of my dream jobs would be to be a major level chess player. Like that will ever happen.  ::)

I'm a big fan of the sicilian defence accelerated dragon or the scheveningen for king's pawn games. For queen's pawn games, I use something else. My rating on Yahoo Chess was 1332 last time I played. I usually take on people in the 1200s with good results, but there are rare cases where I have won against really strong opponents. I beat someone with a 1600 rating one time. That person was probably drunk or something at the time.

I told you people I had high expectations. Now you see just how high they really are.

As Abe Lincoln (who knew something about sorrow and great tragedy) once said: "Most people are about as happy as they make their mind up to be." 

That seems true enough in my own life.  When I wanted to be happy, I was.  When I worked to be miserable, well I did that well enough too, down to the last line, the bottom of the last bottle, all the way to the end of the line.  But, when you get to the end of the line, it was only the end of the line, not the end of me.  Sadly, I kept on living, even when it no longer mattered to me.  So I got up, and went on from there.   Sadder, but wiser.  And I know I'm not the only one on these boards who found themselves at that point, and made the same choice.

No one is ripping into you.  Believe me, you would know it if we were.  We are trying to tell you something.  Something that some of us took a very hard way, and a very rough road to discover.  To wit:

No one on this planet, now, or at any time in history is happy just to make you unhappy.  No one feels a sense of accomplishment just to make you feel bad.  No one ever went to college, or got a Masters, or a PhD to make you feel dumb.  We all felt more than dumb enough doing that ourselves.

We did those things because our own happiness makes us happy.  No more.  No less.

Hi Tekla hon I assure you I am not tugging on your sox. I left a lot of realestate behind me and I worked at what ever job I could get to buy food and gasoline for my half tone truck and camper.

I use to muse at that, and named my truck and camper the Hippie wagon. Oh yes I also fliped a lot of burgers and washed a lot of dishes. You see that was porbably the hapiest times of my life back then, free to do what ever little old me desired to do, no bounderies and no road blocks.

So I traveled all over the place like a jipsy. I was OK until I returned to Ontario and got me off the booze. Ohh goodnes that was the hardest part outside of being almost forced to my knees when the GID finally caught up. Well, today I am happy again, more then anyone's wildest imagination. "Hee, hee, hee." That is also why I do quite well working with folks in need I know how to put a smile on their faces.

I served in the military and received tuition assistance under the GI Bill. 

I studied because I wanted to advance in my career.  I went to class at night, like millions of others, and on Saturdays when necessary.  I took classes 12 months of the year.  I studied at home three hours for every hour of class time and I had a good GPA.  I did that for 11 years and I got what I needed to do what I liked best.

If I didn't have benefits under the GI Bill and from my employers I would not have been able to afford my education.

I was happy with my career and now I am happy to be retired.

So I leave all with a light-hearted thought:

Everyone, I want to say I appreciate what you have told me. You are trying to make me feel better indirectly. I do appreciate it.

I guess I just want someone to tell me directly that I am not dumb. I want to be told that I can pursue all my dreams to the fullest. I want to believe. I want it to come from the heart. I want it to be said with frankness and candor.

I know you can't just flat out tell me that, but that is what I seek. I want to be verified as intelligent. In my heart, I want to believe that I am intelligent, but throughout my life, no-one has ever told me that I am. I have only been told how stupid or crazy I am.

I'm truly sorry for being such a pity case. If I could, if I had a case of cyanide, I would take it.

Poly, you aren't dumb. In fact, you are quite intelligent. You are very good at getting what you think you want. You have a good heart, but your lack of belief in that good heart sometimes makes you think people are lying to you. But, that's your problem and not theirs.

You can be whom you wish to be: it requires effort, time and patience on your part and discovering and using strategies to help you feel better about yourself.

You don't 'look like a woman yet,' but you haven't really made an effort either, not yet. You CAN pursue your dreams to the fullest. That is no guarantee they will automatically come true, but you can make some, at least, come true, maybe all. But, it requires your belief and your work to do that.

The best we can do is encourage and tell you what we think, what we see. And when we do that, I think you need to accept that as the truth we are telling you.

You're not stupid, nor are you crazy. You do have this habit of rejecting for a moment those who would like to comfort you and help you. That's a not-very-good tactic. It will generally lose you friends. Try to work on that.

I hope you return soon to full privileges on the board. As Dennis has told you, only you can make that happen. Only you have the power to be as good as you want to be. But, you DO have that power.

Yes, I read that before I saw your link, dear. Your words were very nice and felt really good to hear.

But, there's no need to go away. Instead, you who like to prove yourself, ;) Prove Yourself!!! Don't run away and leave us and yourself in the lurch. Instead, work on you and stay.

Trust me, only the PM has been removed, otherwose you wouldn't still be able to post. Try to post what you feel, but not in ways that are toxic to others: like attacking them for being nice to you, or saying that don't really mean what they are telling you.

Ya know, for the most part this board seems to be filled with people who don't have trouble saying what they mean to say. Soemtimes they take the edge off that by removing 'bad' words, sometimes they may wait and hour or two to reply so they can say what they really want w/o totally going-off.

So, I think maybe you should just stick around and post publically and have people respond and you respond to them and work on that.

It seems kinda harsh on yourself if there are all those folks you listed who are on this board and you're just gonna exile yourself from us. Think about it, luv.

Well.... On second thoughts, don't think about it. Just stay and do it.  :)

Quitting is the easy thing to do Polymorphic, staying and trying to change is the hard path to take and that takes courage.

Knowing your weaknesses becomes a strength if you recognise that parts of your life that need to change, work hard on them and you can change that around.

When is my personal messaging ability being restored? Nichole said Dennis was going to give me a second chance. Now, I'm starting to get fed up with this s**t. Really fed up. Honestly, am I that f**ken bad? Can SOMEONE please tell me something? Stop lieing to me please... It really sucks when I can't view profiles. Lets not forget I can't even see what everyone is doing at any moment unless I'm in guest status. It feels like I'm groping around blindly in this forum.

No one has 'lied' to you. Given what you had done with the PMs Dennis could well have banned you completely. The second chance is that he didn't. He just took the PM privilege away. What Nichole SAID was that you already had a second chance, that's yours to do with what you will.

Uhh, I have made an effort. I gave something for Dennis to read. Sadly, he still hasn't replied to it. Honestly, what do you people want from me? I can't guarantee the impossible. I can't make a mountain turn to gold...

I don't think anyone wants a mountain of gold. What is wanted is for you to show some change. Like being patient enough to await a response. He replied to your thread. So you know he hasn't forgotten you.

Something to 'read' is hardly a show of some reasonable amount of change, Poly. You might consider showing some change in what you post as well. Like an ability to control yourself somewhat and be able to play well with others.

I think it's time to lock this thread. Give you a chance to consider before you make a response we will all regret.
