How do I find an endocrinologist that's both covered by my insurance and experienced with transition issues? I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, so this should be easy, but I'm still struggling!
I got my initial check out at a clinic specializing in trans people in Fremont, but once I started receiving insurance through my work they said I should stop seeing them and switch to someone covered by my new insurance.
Finding someone through my insurance has been a nightmare. My primary care physician is super nice, but pretty ignorant on trans issues. He recommended an endo, but it turns out she doesn't even deal with trans patients, all she could do is recommend another clinic in SF.
I've emailed the original clinic to see if there's some way we can work with my insurance, but I feel like I'm in the lurch here. I don't feel safe being on HRT and not being monitored, what can I do?

I just wanted to wish you luck. I've never been followed by an Endocrinologist myself. My family doctor manages my prescriptions and my labs.

Can you get a list of approved endos and doctors from your insurance company? If so, you just start calling them all... ask if they have any experience with transsexual HRT and if they're taking new patients.
