"While changing the hearts and minds of people in our communities will make our neighborhoods, our nation and ultimately our world free from violence, legislation is an important first step. To disregard the safety, rights and place within the beloved community of our transgender sisters and brothers is to move the violence to another block. To paraphrase Dr. King's words, no one is safe unless all are safe."
