Hi all,
I am going to request my therapist that we start HRT next month....fully believe it will help level me off if that makes sense. MtF here by the way.
In doing all the research seems HRT may have an impact on high blood pressure. Has anyone currently on HRT noticed this? I have been on several different meds for 6 months as my blood pressure hit 194/108. Is this a factor that may preclude me from HRT?

If your blood pressure is high, it is likely that any endocrinologist / medical practicioner will want to treat the underlying reasons before prescribing HRT.
This may be due to a number of Physical or Neurological reasons (i.e Diabetes or stress) or because of existing medical conditions and treatments. Your Doctor should look at any contra-indications which exist bewteen existing medicines and proposed HRT.
Estrogen is indeed a chemical (or family of Chemicals) that can effect blood pressure, for example the Contraceptive Pill is well known for being a cause of high blood pressure / strokes in women.
I have known a few FTM friends who have had to stop HRT because of high blood pressure, but this is rare.
The main thing is to ensure that by starting HRT your health is not at risk and any good medical practitioner will tell you this.

Guess what I should do is get my regular MD (treating blood pressure) involved with the therapist (who here in Canada is also an MD) so they can prepare notes/meds etc.

Flo,
People in the USA experience a decrease in blood pressure because Spiro is used as the anti-androgen. Spiro was originally developed as a blood pressure medication (it's a potassium sparing diuretic). We only use it because of it's T blocking effects, but we also get lower blood pressure too. When you see the endocrinologist about getting started on HRT let them know about your blood pressure problems and the meds you have been taking. I don't see blood pressure as precluding you from starting HRT, it will just need more careful monitoring by the doctor.

My doctor factored in the effects of Spiro and adjusted my other blood pressure meds. I also take thyroid and diabetes meds, so the doctor watches my blood panels closely.

Thanks to all of you for very informative posts. I have one appointment next week followed by the therapist the week after...will be sure to clue them both in.
