David Palmer was born intersex and had corrective surgery to make him
definitely male. He graduated from the Royal Military School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. He was clarinettist with the Royal Horseguards calvary regiment.

I saw Palmer on stage with Jethro Tull in 1977, the Songs from the Wood tour, playing a medieval portative organ-- a miniature pipe organ that became obsolete several centuries ago, not something you'd ever be likely to see anywhere, let alone a rock concert. Farewell to a one of a kind musician who will be missed.

Dee hasn't passed away, she is alive and well, and finally transitioned after many years living as David.
