Hate by the numbers

The second largest group of hate crimes — 111 — were motivated by sexual orientation. Of these, 92 percent targeted gay men and eight percent were anti-lesbian. Crimes motivated by gender more than doubled from seven to 15, all but one of them based on gender identity. Most targeted male-to-female transgender women, according to the report, and all the crimes targeting transgender victims were violent.

emphasis added by me, you know to hammer home the fact that perhaps those who are perceived to be non-gender conforming might actually need some protection and law enforcement given additional tools/avenues to address the crimes.

Might? O, I would imagine that they definitely DO need more legal protection. Of course given the Duanna Johnson video one might also think that a good weeding of that profession wouldn't be a half-bad idea to institute slightly before the new legal protections were to take place.
