Title: Do I look androgynous?
Post by: je on August 11, 2008, 04:13:16 PM
Yes.. I've been told I look androgynous. So do I?

To be honest you look like a male with a slightly more feminine haircut. Maybe grow out your hair longer? I think more feminine poses in the photos would help as well, in real life meaning carry yourself more errr "feminine-like." [What's the word?]

Argghhh... Damn it. Last thing I want is to be perceived as a male. I'm that bad looking?

Being an androgyne is about our internal sense of gender, how we feel inside, not necessarily whether we look androgynous. Be who you are, and let your androgynous nature shine through.  ;D

number 2 photo is fairly androgynous. Lips eyes and hair quite girly, particularly those big lips.

however, i'd open the poll to everyone - androgynes might not be the best at defining what looks androgynous or not.

You are NOT bad looking at all, at all. You're very good looking and I think with some work you could definitely pull off the androgynous lookl, cause you've got the face for it.

But I also second what Zythryra said.

How good of a base do I have to work with? What things need change? I plan on getting ffs some time in the future -- after I've done hrt long enough. I only started hrt about 6 days ago.

Actually, I'm not out to achieve an androgynous look. I want a feminine look, but I guess that just isn't possible..

If it weren't for the brow, I might have a hard time telling your sex. That's the only thing I notice that could change.

I think you ought to give the HRT some time, once it kicks in you might not even need the FFS.

It really depends on the type of Androgyne you're talking about. From my knowledge there are non-gender identifying Androgynes as well as dual-gender identifying androgynes (and maybe others as well). I would say right now you have a sort of dual-gender look. Some of your features like the full lips (and slightly upturned top lift) are classically feminine, along with the round-ish jaw and chin and pretty straight forhead. I also didn't notice an adam's apple in your profile pic either. Other things like the brow bossing, larger nose with a down turned tip is classically male. I say you have a good balance right now of both, which would be the dual-gender Androgyne. However, I believe you are MTF, right? Not Androgyne? Therefore, I think this is a good start that some don't have, if anything.

Yeah, everything about your face that SarahR pointed out, totally explain what I meant by "you have the face for it."

Yea I'm that awful looking. I'm pursuing a dream that will remain a dream I suppose. To make my body congruent with my identity is just too damn impossible --especially when there are some real monsters out there who make me look so f**ken ugly. I didn't ask to have this ugly face. If I don't even look androgynous, how can I expect to jump into the feminine spectrum without any god damn surgery?

I look like guy -- yuck... I look like another ugly f**ken guy... No matter how you put it, there isn't a way of getting around that. I better be thankful to god.  ::)

I better be thankful since I'm going to need a bag on my f**ken head everytime I leave the house. Hell I need one to cover up my body as well -- just f**ken pathetic.

simmer down.  Personally I think that hormones will do everything.  Just give it time to work and I think you will be very happy with your face.  I remember having the same feelings about it and hating my man face.  I suppose I could show a before and after picture, LOL:  however I will decline to do so at the moment.

QuotePersonally I think that hormones will do everything.

Omfg hormones will do everything you say? I f**ken wish. Oh yea! I keep forgeting that hormones will shrink my brow and nose huh? Lets not forget my huge chin from hell. Get real... I'm twenty two. Hormones aren't the miracle for me. If I were twelve maybe, but I'm twenty f**ken two.

I know I'll be going under the knife simply because I don't want to be uglier than my f**ken cousin. It isn't fair that she gets to be so f**ken beautiful.. It isn't f**ken fair. I don't give a s**t if she is a cisgender. That isn't an excuse. I could have been very feminine looking, but somehow that damn god decided I should be nasty looking. I just got screwed in so many ways.

Maybe if you lived a bit in my skin, you'd get a taste of why I'm like I am.

Could you please stop with the profanity, je? adding asterisks doesn't make it go away.

The way we see ourselves and what we imagine we may look like after hormones is seldom what people get. Audrey's advice was good advice and since you've yet to take hormone one perhaps you should give it a year before suggesting that it won't work.

Will it change your bone-structure? NO, but it will add some softening features simply from added fatty tissue. Constantly saying that it will never work is not the same as not having it work.

One way or another you need to clean up your post-language please.

Am I seeing an illusion? Nichole replying in my thread? I guess hell must have froze over, if Nichole decided to reply in my thread.

About the only thing this thread accomplished is rekindling the hatred I have for myself. Not necessarily a bad thing as it drives me further to fix my body.

And now she's going to do so again. Nichole is talking about 2 things: 1) dismissing Audrey's attempt to help you and 2) your language. I get "paid" to mod. So please be removing those expletives.

Thank you.

QuoteMaybe if you lived a bit in my skin, you'd get a taste of why I'm like I am.

Look, je. We all start out at a place exactly where you are. Most of us thought we could never pass. We were disgusted with the way we looked. However, the point I want to make here is that to pass you first have to let go of any preconceived notions of what you want to look like or how "beautiful" you want to be because then in the end you'll only be disappointed. What does passing mean to you? Is it being the most beautiful supermodel in the world...or is it being able to walk down the street without people taking a second look?

You have a good start with the features I detailed in my last post. With hormones your face will probably change a lot, especially only being 22. I know mine did, and I started at around the same age. No, it didn't reconstruct the bone, but in a lot of ways it accomplished the same result. If after that you are still not happy then yes, there is also the route of FFS. You're 22, a darn good age to get started on HRT.

Also, it doesn't seem constructive to me to bash the people who are replying to you trying to give you the advice and comments that you asked for. Foul language is not needed either, and only makes it less appealing to continue conversations with you.

I want to be as beautiful as my cousin. I just want to at least be on par with my cousin or my sister.

If you want to see what my cousin looks like, I'll give out her face in a personal message only.

Je, the whole point of being trans is we don't look like our gender. Most of us will never look just like we were supposed to. Your cousin and sister are GGs. You can't compare yourself to them. It's pointless and will just make you miserable.

oi oi oi oi oi.... (and various cockney/jewish type noises)

this is the androgyne forum, not the self haters forum - some perspective please.

So you ask us if your face is androgynous and we don't know because we are androgynes not androgynous-es, so we whitter about our uninformed first impressions.. indeed what i read here is that nero thinks you can pass with smaller eyebrows, i think you lips and eyes and hair are very feminine and Sarah thought you wanted to look andro-gyne (male-female) in which case you are perfect.

I think the general consensus was that you have some male characteristics but a lot of female ones too - hormones (as i've heard) should shape your body and soften your face, and with your growing knowledge and confidence in seeing yourself as a woman you will pass more and more. Most women have some masculine features as well.

Hi je,

You asked me to comment so I will.

Based on my own experience with my own ugly man face all I can tell you is
that hormones do work. They add a softness to your face, your eyes, your
body that will make you feel better about yourself.

You and I may never look like a model, but I think if you give hormones
time you will be happy. And if after a while you're not happy there is
always surgery.

Stop hating yourself... it's not productive... plan what you want and go
for it... you will not be sorry :)

The first thing I noticed when gendering you was the facial hair above your lips.  The second (from the side profile) was the brow bossing and flat slanted forehead, which is more typical in males.  Perhaps I'm better at gendering than the average person, but I can cansciously know what I am seeing.  I hope that helps.

Je, like others have said, our pointing out the things that make you look male, it's to help you work to change those things to attain a look you like. It's not to incur any self-hate or to get you down. Okay?

-hugs-

We've all been there. Plenty of us still are. So chillax. :)
