When I was growing up (in the 1950s and early '60s), I received a lot of very negative messages about what would happen to you if you were a sissy. By now I don't remember most of the messages, but I learned the content real well. I learned that sissies get laughed at and picked on. I learned that if you were a boy, it was shameful and horrible to want to dress up like a girl.
