Title: SRS as androgyne
Post by: taru on August 28, 2008, 01:11:56 AM
I am pondering SRS and would like opinions from other people.

How many androgyne identified people have had SRS? How did you decide whether it was the right path for you?

I identify as part female, part other and was born into a male body. I do have dysphoria towards male genitals and not having them would make me much more happy. But I fear that female genitals may not make me completely happy either. In my dreams the whole region is just hazy, male genitals down there make me feel icky while female ones just seem slightly weird.

Any suggestions how to approach this mentally?

You could be nullified and not get a vagina. Someone here has done it.

I guess they just remove the male genitals and reroute the uretha but don't create a vagina. Actually a pretty common thing in certain parts of the world - the Hiras of India do it.
Andra, a member here, has had it done.

Yup  ;D

Yeah, I chose to have a clitoris created as well as the urethral relocation but didn't have a vagina created or a fully female appearance down there.  The hard part is finding a decent surgeon who is prepared to do it, luckily there is one here in the UK who understands that there are people who identify as neither binary gender.

Then again being able to pass as one binary sex nude *does* have advantages.

It seems like a large convenience (lots of public saunas etc), but it seems hard to know how I would feel with it.

Better than with male genitalia in anycase, but still it feels weird when thinking about it.

Depends how closely people check.  I'm sure that region of me would pass nude providing I didn't sit down and spread my legs  ::) :P

Without being to intrusive, how different was the surgery than just say a stage 1 normal SRS, without having the stage 2 hood creation?

Is it essentially the same thing?

Just trying really hard to understand, becuase I feel very much the same way.

Well I had no vaginal cavity created and didn't have natural looking labiaplasty.  I just have a small slit between my clit and my urethral opening.  My clitoris is hooded too, the surgeon I went to does single stage SRS (unless there are complications of course).

There is of course the option of not having clitoroplasty either and just having a small hole to pee out of

Oh OK totally interesting, I get what your saying...

So Would you say you are A-Sexual, or how is the nerve reconnection work, are you generally able to still find that you can reach some form of a orgasm?

Again If my question is too much just tell me?

Thanks Andra for answering my silly questions...

Heh, I am far from asexual.  I only had surgery 8 weeks ago so I'm still working on the functionality part.  Haven't managed orgasm yet but it can take a while for the clitoris to settle down and respond fully.  I'm hoping I'll be able to in the long run but it's not a huge deal, having my own genitalia stimulated isn't too high on my own list of sexual priorities.

Nah, it's ok to ask questions, I'm not shy  :)

Nope, nowhere to stick it :P

Wouldn't be the best part for me, the idea really freaks me out (when thinking about my own body)!

Minimal dose of estradiol valerate (progynova).  Mostly happy with the effects, I like looking very androgynous but not so fond of the bit of breast growth I have (but I can bind so not a big deal).  Overall it's worth it, the alternative is looking rather more male and risking osteoporosis and other health effects in the long term.
