Title: HOW DO YOU GET FAT?!!!

Grrr.

I've determined the only way I'll ever really be able to get hips is to put on some fat.  But that's not seeming to want to happen.  No matter how hard I try, I'm still losing weight.  Most of which is muscle weight, but I've gone from 130 to 115 in a few months and I'm still dropping, it's like the more I eat the more my ribs are defined!

I'm basicly putting canola oil into everything I eat.  I'm eating tons of chocolate for saturated fats.  And nothing works.  Basicly my diet is as follows.

Breakfast:
Some high sugar cereal, half milk and half canola oil.

Lunch: depending on the day, it's either a protein bar(during the week) or on the weekend it's a large serving of carbs like chili mac, with a lot of cheese and ranch and diced sausage added along with a lot of canola oil poured into it to add to my fat intake.

Supper: more carb loading with the same principle of finding any way to add more calories.

I snack on chocolates and junk food all day.

So my total calorie intake is exceeding 3000 calories a day.  I eat until I have to resist the urge to throw up for about an hour.  And then I study until I take a nap.

I'm barely working out too, about 1-2 times in the gym a week, barely any cardio, just hypertrophy of the legs using various machines and free weight exercises.

And I'm losing weight still.

Any tips on how to get fat?  Like seriously, it's bothering me, that I'm eating such a calorie excess(3000-5000 calories/day) and I'm still LOSING weight, when all I want is a few inches of fat around my hips and thighs to better my body shape and all that's happening is I'm becoming more of a stick.

HELP!

Eating junk food will not automatically make you fatter or help you to gain more weight. There are other factors into that.

When someone has a high metabolism or difficulty gaining weight, it doesn't work in the same way. Besides, you want to gain weight in a healthy way and not through putting crap in your body.

You actually will lose that mass and fat if you don't work out because its not going to any use. Its why a lot of people with high metabolisms can sit around and not gain a pound... they aren't putting that fat to use and therefore its underdeveloped.

Look at a healthy diet of carbs and proteins. Stay away from the junk food.

I wish I could help but I'm in the same boat.
Right now I weigh 53kg (about 115lbs) soaking wet.
My mum jokes about giving me 10 kilo of fat and I find that annoying.  :-\

i tend to eat and sleep. works for me.
i don't even eat unhealthily... i wouldn't do waht you do though, eat until you feel sick, sounds very unhealthy and could cause illness and depression. If I were you I'd eat lots of pasta and rice, like an athlete does  - or have the wartime diet of potatoes. In WWII the people here were healthier but chunkier because of a high potato and vegetable diet.

Chinese food buffet, take out fried rice, sweettarts, KFC, Spam, and any other canned type meat. I agree with Pica sleep about 12+ hours and start doing a lot computer stuff. This might help also to get really depressed about life. I gained 148 pounds using this method.

Lots and lots of carbs - fats, even saturated fats, don't work so well.    Most fatties are the way they are because of their carb intake (myself included).  White bread, pasta, starchy sauces, turkey stuffing... the list goes on.  Starches are better than sucrose, which is better than fructose.  You're looking for things with a high glycemic index.

I find that potatoes have the biggest impact on my blood sugar, followed by pasta with dairy-based sauce.  Glycemic index charts tend to agree.

Of course, there's always the nuclear option:

If you've got a good muscle mass initially, there is a good chance that if you continue your normal activity your weight will slowly drop as muscle mass goes down
and fat gets burned up by this muscle. Eventually, it should reach an equilibrium and your activity and T will sustain the muscle you have
and you're weight will either stay the same or start tipping up.

You off course can make it tip up now also but it will require more food than later when you're base metabolism will be lower.

I don't recommend eating fatty food (fast food or otherwise)
to gain weight, it will disrupt you're fat storage
metabolism and you may gain most of your weight in the middle, not a good thing.
If you want to gain weight slowly but in a better place, pile on the long digesting carbs (whole wheat bread for example).

Don't go overboard, 300 calories a day excess of what you eat now,
gives you 3.5 pounds gain per month. For a frame like yours, you probably
only need about 12 pounds of well distributed fat to look quite fine, so 4 months
should be enough.

Once you reach your weight, you can then cut back the intake. You can also get
the 300 calorie excess by cutting exercise, but It not as healthy.

By junk food I primarily meant, Dove Chocolate.  Other than that everything is natural and healthy.  And no, I'm not looking for sarcastic remarks of, "load my body up with transfats" and all that.  Yes I'm still on E, which is why I'm hoping putting on some fat would go to my hips instead of the waist.
I can't really be a couch potato because I'm just a busy person.  FUlltime college and running around a pharmacy 30 hours a week stop me from being that.
But it's just like I said, no matter how much I eat and no matter how much I deliberately load up with carbs and fats it just doesn't seem to work.
That and I'm even taking multivitamins a lot to make sure I'm getting the full nutrient base, since all I can afford to fit in my stomach in this mission are really fattening foods or foods high in protein to help my hair grow faster.

Well eventually E should make it easier to put on weight. Hon, I think your body is just still too strong. I mean you're a freaking athlete. prolly take a lot of time to lose all that muscle and fitness.

My upper body has lost over half of it's musculature.
My legs are still insane muscular, and I'm sure I could qualifiy on any college track team in a zap, but I don't see how that would effect fat grown when I'm literally eating soooo much.

A friend of mine was required to put on weight for some health reason or other.  And she used the milk shake diet.  A milk shake three times a day, morning, noon and night.

She put on twenty pounds in two months and she now hate milk shakes.  ;D

That sounds familiar, Janet.

When I lost a lot of weight, the doctor told me to get those breakfast milkshakes and drink them. I did end up getting sick of them for a while... but I'd imagine it might help. It didn't do much for me, but it was because my weight loss was depression related.

Well I guess I'll start chugging those glucose energy drinks or whatever they're called.  I'll report back.  I'm hoping this exploit results in fat on the hips predominantly, if it all goes to the waste then I'm stopping it, just like that.

since it typically doesn't provoke insulin spikes and promotes visceral fat accumulation

So things high in polysachhlarides and highly complex structured proteins(less cooked eggs, etc) and um... what else?
Thing is, that's what I'm already doing.
Soda is something I was considering, but all it does is give me sugar highs which send me into a schizophrenic cleaning frenzy or something.  That and they dry the body out, when I'm trying to have my body overloaded with H2O, not be dehydrated from it.

To ask the obvious question, have you talked with your physician? And had updated blood and other tests to see why you're losing weight?

And if you're on hrt, folks (generally but not universally) tend to have two different reactions. Some put on weight and fat, often a lot, and some lose weight and add some fat (obvious places). As they say, it's in the factors of your body, physiology and genes, but don't go down a course of not exercising and eating excessively. First, seek real answers then consider a nutrionist to help you add the weight.

The last thing you really need, and want if it happens, is to gain a lot of weight to discover you can't lose it and it threatens your health. It's far harder to lose excess weight/fat than gain it. You can control the weight gain, but rarely the weight loss.

I was a personal trainer for years.

I know how to drop ANYONE to a bodyfat of lower than 8%.

I was just looking for specific foods or strategies, not lectures, tyvm.

It wasn't a lecture, but simple advice, which was my point. If you're eating that much, not exercising enough to use the calories and still losing weight, you may have a problem and should see a physician, to at least determine nothing is off and can understand what could help you gain weight without hurting your body.

What's wrong about talking with a nutrionist to find a balanced diet to gain weight? Anyone can recommend food to add weight and fat, but it's your body to determine if that is the right food and good for you.

But it's your health and decision.

Actually, you can lose weight even if you eat a lot if you don`t do a lot of weight exercises and are without T.
T sustains a bigger muscle mass more easily. Muscles weight more than fat.
So, if you lose muscle mass, you`ll weight less, seems logical.

One thing that`s interesting also, fat tends to be deposited in the existing fat cells first.
Most fat cells are created before we are 21 and then we don`t create more unless
the existing ones are filled up.

For mtf, that`s usually in the abdomen area.
IF you were very overweight in your childhood
and had a lot of abdomen fats, it will be hard to
get a proper female distribution.

One of the solution here is lipo. By removing those
fat cells, under E`s influence fat will go to the lower
body now that there is less fat cells in the middle.

But, it won`t
help with the visceral fats which will need to
be kept down through exercise.

If you`ve been rail thin all your life
in theory this is better since if your under E,
the cells in the female areas won`t be able to
store enough fat and there should be more created.

Yup, rail thing. I don't think I've even ever put on any weight in my midsection before.  Ever since I was 8, I've had a clearly defined 6 pack.

Right now I'm adding a new foe for my rail skinny body  to fight: scrambled eggs cooked in half an inch of melted butter so that they soaked all that butter in and then smothered in salsa.  It's really yummy.

I'm thinking of keeping going like this for another few months, but I doubt I'll see anything, but I can keep trying.  If not then I'll just go back to option A: corsetting and being rail thin all the time>.<  And relying on weight lifting and cycling to add mass to my gluteals and thighs.

Make it like 5-6 eggs per breakfast, throw in some toast & nitrite-free bacon, and you're golden.  Also, Ramen noodles - eat lots of 'em as snacks.

Easy.  Starve yourself.  It will put your body into kind of a stasis so that it starts storing calories as fat.  After, go on a rollercoaster of binge/splurge until you gain weight.  Beware though, once you get fat, it's very difficult to go the other way.

Tests have shown that about two months on most diets and then going off puts weight on people who cannot gain weight. Works at something like 90% effectiveness. So try a weight-loss diet; I think the average gain is about 10-15 pounds from that.

I have the same problem.  People constantly ask me if I am anorexic because I am so thin (5'9" and 106lbs.) but I swear I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full.  I try to eat healthily because junk food gives me a stomach ache.  I would not know how to put on some weight in a healthy way, I'm naturally slender so I'm not sure if my body wants me to.  ???

I was reading over articles of foods to avoid and struck a bit of genius.  You can by a flavored coffee creamer that would deliver well over 800 calories in one cup.  So basicly, I went out and bought a lot of coffee creamers, and am gonna be drinking a 300mls or more of coffee creamer a night.

I've been watching weight loss shows and occasionaly they have these super skinny people who are actualy classified as obese. Weird.

How long have you been on the mones? I've heard it can take some time for things to change, have you thought of waiting for a year or two and see how it goes? Of course if you're impatient I guess chugging down the creamer is an option.

I read this topic and honestly, I get really, really scared.  From what I can tell.... you are of college age, in good health, on E and trying to gain weight.  The danger is that with poor/excessive eating, weight gain can  "kick-in" rather suddenly, and you may have developed very "bad habits" in the meantime.  You mentioned that you were a personal trainer and that you could lose the weight if "need be".  The problem is that once you develop bad habits, it is very hard to break them, even when you know how to "lose the weight".  Also, as you get older your metabolism will naturally slow down but you will be used to consuming a very large amount of food.  Trying to force weight gain is something I would only undertake with extreme caution and I would take it in very slow/measured increments while giving a significant time for the effects to set in.

I am an Ironman competitor and find that a good portion of the Bio girls are less defined/"hourglass" than me.(I have very little definition...all of which was gained in a 6 week period after Ironman Florida in which I basically stopped training)  So, although we would all like a nice hourglass figure, realize that even in the bio female population, many don't have much definition.  Good eating habits and eating proper portions is a gift.  I would carefully weigh all the potential consequences before throwing that gift away.

I've been on and off for a year now.  was on from dec-jun and got back on late july.

well you remind me of myself. I wanted boobs, so I gained 65 lbs. Now I'm trying to lose it, cause a belly aint cool, Im walking 3 miles a day. :) be healthy, be happy

What it all comes down to is calories in vs. calories out. You can gain weight by eating calories that are a bit better for you or junk food.  It seems that healthy foods would be better for you in the end,  stick to good carbs, protiens, healthy calories. I have a son who is underweight and the doctor has been clear that he needs to gain weight but not by eating a bunch of fatty processed food. He drinks protien shakes, I give him protien bars, basically you want healthy calories.

Uh huh.  Something called METABOLISM.  In other words, the sum of all chemical reactions in the body.

You don't gain fat by just eating fat.
You can gain from protein also if you don't do
muscle building exercise and have low T.
Unused proteins get converted to fats.
Though, since this takes energy and loads the liver, its not the most
effiicient way to gain weight and its not the healthiest if you don't also
take in carbs.

The best thing to gain weight in a healthy way is long to digest carbs, they
give you a constant energy stream where the overflow gets stored
as fat instead of metabolically bad spikes of insulin and blood lipids.

which is totally why coffee creamer is an excellent idea.  basicly like liquid sugar.  plenty of carbs^_^

NOT GOOD, its the opposite of what I said, it provokes a high insulin spike.
Eat tons of whole bread and you'll a result that's better for you.

Annwyn  you really want to put some weight on . this is what you do  and you MUST do it everyday and with OUT any questionings of

it at all . frist off drink one gallon of whole milk every other day . if not one gallon a day its self. and then 2 eat 5 quarts of ice cream

any flavor . and dont forget the toping too. and then drink at lest a 12 pack of pop a day here again any choice of pop is ok as long

as its like mounten dew or pepsi . or coke .and then eat half a bag of cookies and  a bag of chips with dip  every few days . and then

have a big mac and a bart with onions and cheese from 7 eleven a day . and do this untill you get to the weight that  you are trying to reach

and if you DO this religoues  it wont take you very long to rach your goal ;)

of fat. You'll get a bell if you do that! Don't do it.

Really?  Interesting... I was under the impression that a diet high in lipids would help distribute estrogen BETTER in the body, seeing as estrogen is a steroid and steroids are lipid-soluable...

One thing that has not been mentioned so far is progesterone, which you might want to consider adding to your regimen if you're not taking it already. This is mainly what makes pregnant women gain so much weight. Many American TS women are put on an estradiol-only therapy and unfortunately do not get to experience the added benefit of progesterone. This includes better fat distribution, rounder breasts, far better skin, moderate antiandrogenic effects among others. I might write a separate post about this eventually, but basically in my experience, a combined therapy works much much better, even if you're taking pure anti-androgens. I started out taking both estrogen and progesterone, had fantastic results (though age and genetics will also play a role), then went to a different doctor who put me on estrogen only. The differences were almost immediately noticeable in my case: oilier skin, breakouts, weight loss, hair loss... basically a 50% return to my pre-transition days. I was devastated until I finally figured it out. As soon as I returned to my old regimen, things were back to normal.

Also, eating such an unhealthy diet will backfire as you get older, and could give you dull, unattractive complexion. Not to mention high cholesterol levels, risk of coronary disease, etc. Eating healthy fats (Canola, Olive, etc.) will not make you gain weight either, that's a misconception. Do drink plenty of whole milk/natural cream, eat whole yogurt, breads, cookies, cakes, pies, other rich baked items, jam, peanut butter, ice cream and chocolate; ALL with natural, simple ingredients (no hydrogenated oil, margarine, high fructose syrup). Butter is good. Drink plenty of natural juice, eat a lot of bananas and potatoes (unless you're on spiro), add rice, beans and nuts to your diet, and gradually cut your meat/chicken intake by half (or go vegetarian if you could).

Which iimpedes the natural fat metabolism in the body.
Google "metabolic syndrome"  or   ( "high fat diet" study )

Naturally, a young women who exercises a bit should not get a belly,
but she'll get one if she eats a high fat, high sugar diet.

To gain weight in a good way is to eat one or two extra servings a day of
a hard to digest carbs and proteins. Beens,
peanuts, whole wheat bread, etc.

Its possible to gain weight on good fat, drink olive one liter of olive oil a day and I'm
sure you'll get weight very fast. Don't drink it in one shot or you'll be on the toilet
quick  ;D. I once did this a while back, and I gained 10 pounds in one month.

If you eat tons of salmon, you'll gain weight. This is also a very healthy diet if
couple with a bit of carbs.

It's all about the carbs.  Simple carbs to spike that insulin up, followed up with high energy density complex carbs that'll go straight to fat with all that insulin floating around.

To put on moderate weight, a high carb, moderate fat fiet will do it.  Do not do the high fat content because it affect your cholesterol.

If anyone here wants to lose weight, the Sojuth Beach diet is a winner.
