I know many people use wigs, but I just keep my hair long.

Long.
Unfortunately I'm balding on top now :( so need to wear hat or scarf. I really don't want to wear a wig. No way!

I love longer styles, but I also love roller set medium styles, so I'm there right now. I've worn it every way from super short to nearly waist length, though. I think I'll wear some sort of flip or paige for the next few years (I can always cheat with wigs, too).

Until last year I never really wore wigs but now that thin spot on top is getting thinner and I don't think I look that good in a hat although I love to wear them. Also, my own hair is super thin (no body without added substances) and is now very white/grey . . and who wants to look "old and in the way"?
So anyway, I own a couple of wigs that I've picked up over years that I've started wearing in pubic. They give me a lot of confidence and they are kind of fun. I would like to have one of them styled and maybe buy another to round out the collection. Does anyone know a good wig stylist / store in the Seattle area - preferably one that is tuned in to the needs of transwomen?
My GGSO says the wig in my avatar is so out of style. :icon_help:

Thanks Anne, Guess what? That's the place I bought the wig in my avatar. That was several years ago before I felt comfortable as Margaret in public. I do remember the lady there as being very nice. I'll be happy to give her my business again, especially with your rec.
Cheers, Margi

Hi Margaret, I think you look good with the one you are wearing in your avatar. You can get some pretty good quality authentic looking hair pieces made of 100% real hair but they may cost a few bucks. Anyway you look good in that picture, mind if I ask how long have you been transitioning? Just curious.
Have a wonderful day

Hi Cindy, Thanks for the compliment on my hair. I like it too. But, like I say, my SO needs to like it too. I'll ask the woman at Hair Options next week. I'll update you on her opinion if you like.
I'm happy to discuss my transition but it's a little complicated. I'd say I finally realized who I was and started down that road in 1998. (The details are in my personal website, button at left.) But, there have been fits and starts and I seem to be catching my breath right now in a nice place short of GRS. Who knows what the future will bring but I plan to keep on trusting my feelings and not think too much about where they take me.
Cheers, Margi

Hi, Margaret, When you transition your should do it at your own pace but I believe that to stop in mid-stride is not a good thing to do as it appears you have already found. I started full time the same summer of 2000, the same year that my son departed from this world.
For me the GID had gotten to being severe in its nature, enough that thoughts of suicide were constantly on my mind. Later that year I was also left with a friend's three children in my care which turned out to be for the duration of two years. It was those three children that kept me sane through the early part of my transition and life was good.
But then life has been good for me most times although it has sometimes threatened to fall apart on me, but at the very last minute something always came along that kept me from being consumed by negative challenges. Today I have good life, I am happy, I have a loving mate and I am an upbeat person most of the time.
Sometimes it almost feels like I am committing a terrible mortal sin or something especially in the light of many TS folks who have lived such brief, young, turmoiled lives compared to mine. Well, I didn't come here for my health, I came back here to Susan's with the hope that maybe I can teach someone how to smile as well.
I'd like to buy the world a home and furnish it with love...
Please continue to share, hon.

Thanks for the advice Cindy. I can use all I can get. Could you give me a little more detail here. What is it about a suspended transition that you see as problematic?

QuoteHi, Margaret, When you transition you should do it at your own pace but I believe that to stop in mid-stride is not a good thing to do as it appears you have already found.I know that sometimes one has a good and legitimate reason to put their transition on hold but not without much stress and suffering until they resume transitioning. All that I am saying is that once the GID tide sets in it will carry you away and I feel that one needs at least have a life preserver at-hand for when it comes.
I only had a rough time of on my first day full time on the job but everyone accepted me as one of the other girls. Clients and staff both donated clothes for me to wear. I was well accepted even though I certainly didn't pass as well as I had wished. Everyone continued to treat me with respect and I never looked back after that. I never came onto anything that terrible that would even make me consider putting my transition on hold.
Now you know why I said that sometimes I feel guilty when I compare my easy transition to all the stuff others here had to go through to get there and many others who are still working to get there. Sometimes I wish I could adopt them and bring them home with me. ;D As for work, I was retired from my career and job two years ago. Then my mate and I moved here to Vancouver and I do work with trans persons here as well as working at a women's shelter downtown. It is my work and my mate that gives me the incentive to create and live the happiest life as I can for myself. I do it by giving of myself to others in need. I have been a rescuer since I was 6 years old so why change now?
